Monte Carlo dose index estimation in computed tomography

open access: yesAIMS Bioengineering, 2020
We numerically study the computed tomography dose index (CTDI) quantity based on the Monte Carlo method using GATE software. In this work, it was demonstrated that the CTDI values decreased following an exponential form as a function of phantom diameter. As expected, the absorbed dose is shown to have a good relationship which increases linearly with X-

Estimating Reference Dose Measurements during Common Computed Tomographic Procedures

open access: yesKing Khalid University Journal of Health Sciences, 2020
Background: Medical X-rays are the largest man-made source of public exposure to ionizing radiation. In CT examination, the probability of radiation-induced cancer is more than other x-ray examinations.

Iodine-123 labeled reboxetine analogues for imaging of noradrenaline transporter in brain using single photon emission computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Preliminary investigation of the radioiodinated (S,S)-reboxetine analogue, 123I-INER, in baboons showed this tracer to have promise for imaging the noradrenaline transporter (NAT) using single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT).

In-situ Analysis of Laminated Composite Materials by X-ray Micro-Computed Tomography and Digital Volume Correlation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The complex mechanical behaviour of composite materials, due to internal heterogeneity and multi-layered composition impose deeper studies. This paper presents an experimental investigation technique to perform volume kinematic measurements in composite ...

Computed tomography dose index for head CT in northern Nigeria

open access: yesRadiation Protection Dosimetry, 2015
Computed tomography dose index w and dose length product were recorded for the purpose of developing diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for radiation dose optimisation. The study was conducted in three radiology departments with CT centres in Northern Nigeria.

Patient Dose Estimation Using CT-Expo Software at Two Hospitals in North-Central Nigeria

open access: yesSouthern Clinics of Istanbul Eurasia, 2018
INTRODUCTION[|]Simulation software has aided the estimation of organ dose from computed tomography (CT) examinations. The aim of this study was to use the CT-Expo (SASCRAD, Fritz-Reuter-Weg, Buchholz, Germany) software to determine volume CT dose index ...

Is It Possible to Replace Conventional Radiography (CR) with a Dose Neutral Computed Tomography (CT) of the Cervical Spine in Emergency Radiology—An Experimental Cadaver Study

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2022
The purpose of this experimental study on recently deceased human cadavers was to investigate whether (I) the radiation exposure of the cervical spine CT can be reduced comparable to a dose level of conventional radiography (CR); and (II) whether and ...

Adult Computed Tomography examinations in Uganda: Towards determining the National Diagnostic Reference Levels

open access: yesBMC Medical Imaging, 2022
Introduction Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs), typically set at the 75th percentile of the dose distribution from surveys conducted across a broad user base using a specified dose-measurement protocol, are recommended for radiological examinations ...

A novel volume based cone beam computed tomography periapical index

open access: yes, 2021
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variations in volume of periapical lesions scored using cone beam computed tomography periapical index (CBCTPAI) and develop a new volume based periapical index.

Assessment of Computed Tomography Dose Index (CTDI) During CT Pelvimetry Using Monte Carlo Simulation

open access: yesAtom Indonesia, 2023
A pelvimetry examination is sometimes prescribed to a pregnant woman at the end of her pregnancy in order to assess the dimensions of her pelvis prior to childbirth.
