An architecture for ambient computing

IEE Seminar on Intelligent Building Environments, 2005
First and foremost, this article presents a conceptual model for ambient computing systems, where we define the vocabulary in use. We then present an architecture that closely matches this model, and that makes use of the popular concept of context component.

Architectural design by cognitive computing [PDF]

open access: possible2015 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC), 2015
Cognition is one of the important and ubiquitous manifestations of human mind. Cognition is a subject of cognitive science which spans cognitive psychology, neurobiology and computational intelligence of engineering sciences. In this work the computational cognition is the subject-matter for investigation and architectural design is the particular ...

The architecture of the computable

Design Studies, 1980
Abstract Certain assumptions about the computable are shown to be structured in a different style to that of the representation of our perceptions. This, it is argued, provides an analogy for the process of design. An alternative way of thinking about the computable is proposed, and certain applications in education are raised.

Parallel Computer Architecture

2009
The possibility for a parallel execution of computations strongly depends on the architecture of the execution platform. This chapter gives an overview of the general structure of parallel computers which determines how computations of a program can be mapped to the available resources, such that a parallel execution is obtained.

The architecture of a database computer - a summary

ACM SIGARCH Computer Architecture News, 1977
The motivation for seeking hardware solutions to database management functions traditionally carried out by software has been apparent to data-base designers for sometime now. Firstly, database management software has grown in complexity and size over the years.
