Using perceptual control theory to analyse technology integration in teaching

open access: yesThe Journal for Transdisciplinary Research in Southern Africa, 2013
Contrary to the more traditional scenario of instructor-focused presentation, contemporary education allows individuals to embrace modern technological advances such as computers to concur with, conceptualize and substantiate matters presented before ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Note on the Effectiveness OF Stochastic Optimization Algorithms for Robust Design

open access: yes, 2008
Robust design optimization (RDO) uses statistical decision theory and optimization techniques to optimize a design over a range of uncertainty (introduced by the manufacturing process and unintended uses).

Shadow detection and removal for moving objects using Daubechies complex wavelet transform

open access: yes, 2017
Shadow detection and removal is a challenging problem for several computer vision applications because shadow always makes object misclassified. A number of shadow detection and removal algorithms have been reported, and some of these algorithms require ...

Analysis and elimination of noise-induced temperature error in processor thermal control

open access: yes, 2020
Processor thermal control in real-time systems is crucial because overheated processors may result in critical performance degradation or even system failure.

Self-organized complexity and Coherent Infomax from the viewpoint of Jaynes’s probability theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper discusses concepts of self-organized complexity and the theory of Coherent Infomax in the light of Jaynes’s probability theory. Coherent Infomax, shows, in principle, how adaptively self-organized complexity can be preserved and improved by ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated
