Olympiad in Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics

open access: closed, 2015
Many ideas of theoretical computer science is not yet included in the practice of school teaching. To test the methods of learning new ideas one can use the format of school Olympiads which form a circle of ideas and objectives which can be included in the future general curriculum.

Review of Essential Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science By Harry Lewis and Rachel Zax

open access: closedACM SIGACT News, 2020
In this column we state a class of open problems that are well known in Ramsey Theory but probably not to my non-Ramsey readers. Nothing I present is original.

Connecting Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science

2022
Computer science majors taking a non-programming-based course like discrete mathematics might ask 'Why do I need to learn this?' Written with these students in mind, this text introduces the mathematical foundations of computer science by providing a comprehensive treatment of standard technical topics while simultaneously illustrating some of the ...

Concept inventories in computer science for the topic discrete mathematics

Working group reports on ITiCSE on Innovation and technology in computer science education - ITiCSE-WGR '06, 2006
This report describes concept inventories, specialized assessment instruments that enable educational researchers to investigate student (mis)understandings of concepts in a particular domain. While students experience a concept inventory as a set of multiple-choice items taken as a test, this belies its purpose, its careful development, and its ...

Research Area 3: Mathematical Sciences: 3.4, Discrete Mathematics and Computer Science

2015
Abstract : Many modern applications require modeling and analysis of functions on large, high dimensional, unstructured data sets. One may assume that the data lies on a low dimensional manifold, but this manifold is not known. We have extended the diffusion geometry paradigm for these problems to study function approximation on data defined manifolds.
