Algorithmique et Programmation. Automates finis. Chap. I/9 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This is the introduction to Section I/9, Algorithms and Programming, of the Encyclopaedia of Computer Science and Information Systems. This section is devoted to three fundamental tools in computer science: algorithms, machine models and programming ...

Freedom in computing (How I do my computing) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Contribution to a tradition of similar texts within computer science and technology, by computer scientists and programmers, and others, in which we explain our beliefs about the tools – hardware, software, net- works and programming languages – that we ...

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

Formal semantics of language and the Richard-Berry paradox [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2008
The classical logical antinomy known as Richard-Berry paradox is combined with plausible assumptions about the size i.e. the descriptional complexity of Turing machines formalizing certain sentences, to show that formalization of language leads to contradiction.

Programming Paradigms in Computer Science Education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Main styles, or paradigms of programming – imperative, functional, logic, and object-oriented – are shortly described and compared, and corresponding programming techniques are outlined.

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Extensions of $ω$-Regular Languages [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We consider extensions of monadic second order logic over $\omega$-words, which are obtained by adding one language that is not $\omega$-regular. We show that if the added language $L$ has a neutral letter, then the resulting logic is necessarily undecidable.

C-Sheep: Controlling Entities in a 3D Virtual World as a Tool for Computer Science Education [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
One of the challenges in teaching computer science in general and computer programming in particular is to maintain the interest of students, who often perceive the subject as difficult and tedious. To this end, we introduce C-Sheep, a mini-language-like

4 constitutions 4 Cyberspace. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In the tradition of computer science texts like Fein’s “The computer-related sciences (synnoetics) at a university in the year 1975 ” (1961) or Landin’s “The next 700 programming languages” (1966), furthered in for instance The Right to Read (1997), we ...

Chemoresistome mapping in individual breast cancer patients unravels diversity in dynamic transcriptional adaptation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study used longitudinal transcriptomics and gene‐pattern classification to uncover patient‐specific mechanisms of chemotherapy resistance in breast cancer. Findings reveal preexisting drug‐tolerant states in primary tumors and diverse gene rewiring patterns across patients, converging on a few dysregulated functional modules. Despite receiving the
