Teaching Vowel Articulation with the Computer Vowel Trainer Methodology and Results
British Journal of Audiology, 1981The Computer Vowel Trainer (CVT) uses linear prediction to estimate and display the shape of the speaker's vocal tract during an utterance. The assessment of the CVT was carried out over a period of three years with 14 profoundly deaf children divided into an experimental and a matched control group.

A micro-computer based trainer for pure-tone audiometry
British Journal of Audiology, 1986A micro-computer based system to simulate patient performance on pure-tone audiometry has been developed, which in conjunction with a dummy audiometer allows easy development of a student training facility. The system can be easily configured to realistically and comprehensively represent a wide range of hearing losses.

Distributed training: the MSU computer laboratory departmental trainer program
Proceedings of the 15th annual ACM SIGUCCS conference on User Services - SIGUCCS '87, 1987With the advent of microcomputers, distributed computing is here to stay. With distributed computing comes distributed expertise; people must learn to run their own computing centers, no matter what the size of the computers. In trying to deal with increased demands for training in a limited-resource environment, we have taken the natural step of ...

A Computer Assisted Surgical Trainer for Transurethral Resection of the Prostate
Journal of Urology, 2002We developed a realistic and reusable computer assisted surgical training system for transurethral resection of the prostate.A disposable prostate model is housed in a model abdomen. A software program that provides a 3-dimensional (D) illustration of the prostate model was developed.

A do-it-yourself computer vision based robotic ball throw trainer
Proceedings of the 19th Annual International Conference on Mobile Systems, Applications, and Services, 2021We demonstrate a self-training system for sports involving throwing a ball. We design a do-it-yourself (DIY) machinery that can be assembled using off-the-shelf items and integrates computer vision to visually track the ball throw accuracy. In this work, we demonstrate a system that can identify if the ball went through the hoop and approximately in ...

Transfer of Skill from a Computer Game Trainer to Flight
Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 1994An experimental study was conducted to test the transfer of skills from a complex computer game to the flight performance of cadets in the Israeli Air Force flight school. The context relevance of the game to flight was argued on the basis of a skill-oriented task analysis, using the framework provided by contemporary models of the human processing ...

A Digital Computer for Use in an Operational Flight Trainer
IRE Transactions on Electronic Computers, 1955The requirements for a digital computer for use in an operational flight trainer are presented with emphasis being placed on the real-time aspects of the problem. The general purpose digital computer is shown to be inadequate for this purpose and a special purpose digital computer is described which meets the requirements.
