Estimating National and Foreign Trade Elasticities Using Generalized Transport Costs

open access: yesJournal of Regional Science, Volume 65, Issue 2, Page 471-496, March 2025.
ABSTRACT We introduce the definition of two distinct trade elasticities corresponding to imports from regions located in the same country (national elasticities) and foreign regions located in other countries (foreign elasticities). We resort to a three‐tier nested CES utility structure to derive the corresponding demand gravity equations.

Multiple positive solutions for Kirchhoff type problems involving concave and convex nonlinearities in R^3

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2016
In this article, we consider the multiplicity of positive solutions for a class of Kirchhoff type problems with concave and convex nonlinearities. Under appropriate assumptions, we prove that the problem has at least two positive solutions, moreover ...

Tackling nonlinear price impact with linear strategies

open access: yesMathematical Finance, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 422-440, April 2025.
Abstract Empirical studies in various contexts find that the price impact of large trades approximately follows a power law with exponent between 0.4 and 0.7. Yet, tractable formulas for the portfolios that trade off predictive trading signals, risk, and trading costs in an optimal manner are only available for quadratic costs corresponding to linear ...

Infinitely many solutions for quasilinear Schrödinger equation with concave-convex nonlinearities

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems
In this work, we study the existence of infinitely many solutions to the following quasilinear Schrödinger equations with a parameter α and a concave-convex nonlinearity: 0.1 − Δ p u + V ( x ) | u | p − 2 u − Δ p ( | u | 2 α ) | u | 2 α − 2 u = λ h 1 ( x

Multiple positive solutions for biharmonic equation of Kirchhoff type involving concave-convex nonlinearities

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2020
In this article, we study the multiplicity of positive solutions for the biharmonic equation of Kirchhoff type involving concave-convex nonlinearities, $$ \Delta^2u-\Big(a+b\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}|\nabla u|^2dx\Big)\Delta u+V(x)u =\lambda f_1(x)|u|^{q-2 ...

The Economic Effects of ‘Excessive’ Financial Deepening

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We study the causal implications of high levels of financial deepening for economic development and banking crises in a panel of countries over the past seven decades. We adopt a factor‐augmented heterogeneous difference‐in‐differences estimator and find, in contrast to the existing literature, that very high levels of financial development do

Redistribution and labor market inclusion

open access: yesThe Scandinavian Journal of Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper incorporates labor market inactivity and long‐term unemployment into the framework of optimal redistributive taxation. We examine how a combination of education policy, public employment programs, unemployment benefits, and optimal income taxation can effectively address both redistributive goals and the persistent challenges of ...

Multiple positive solutions for elliptic problem with concave and convex nonlinearities

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2015
In this article, we consider the existence of multiple solutions to the elliptic problem $$\displaylines{ -\Delta u=\lambda u^q+u^s+\mu u^p\quad \text{in } \Omega,\cr u>0\quad \text{in } \Omega,\cr u=0\quad \text{on } \partial\Omega, }$$ where ...

Investigation of Solution Accuracy in PFEM Simulations Using Benchmark Problems

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The simulation of large topological changes, such as those occurring in Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) and vibratory pile driving, remains a major challenge in computational geomechanics. Excessive mesh distortions render classical approaches like the Finite Element Method (FEM) unsuitable, emphasizing the need for alternative methodologies ...

Exact Multiplicity of Positive Solutions for Convex-Concave-Convex Nonlinearities

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics, 2017
In this paper we study the bifurcation curve of the Dirichlet boundary value problem with convex- concave-convex nonlinearities. By using Time-map techniques, we prove that the bifurcation curve of the boundary value problem is S-shaped when the ...
