Revealing the Transmission Hologram's Refractive Index Profile Stored in a Photohydrogel: A Structural Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A theoretical model is developed to visualize three‐dimensional refractive index profiles in transmission holographic gratings. In this work, it is applied to photopolymerizable hydrogels, enabling detailed analysis of the internal structure of recorded holograms and their evolution under different degradation conditions.

Computing Normalized Equilibria in Convex-Concave Games [PDF]

open access: yes
. This paper considers a fairly large class of noncooperative games in which strategies are jointly constrained. When what is called the Ky Fan or Nikaidô-Isoda function is convex-concave, selected Nash equilibria correspond to diagonal saddle points of ...

Dipeptide concave nanospheres based on interfacially controlled self-assembly: from crescent to solid

open access: yes, 2016
Concave nanospheres based on the self-assembly of simple dipeptides not only provide alternatives for modeling the interactions between biomacromolecules, but also present a range of applications for purification and separation, and delivery of active ...

Concavities of the margins of focal bone lesions on MRI: a retrospective study of 586 cases

open access: yesInsights into Imaging
Objectives Except for a few specific lesions, the analysis of the margins of focal bone lesions with MRI has been largely overlooked in the literature. We observed that some lesions exhibited concave margins, suggesting a non-aggressive nature.

Identifying Physical Interactions in Contact‐Based Robot Manipulation for Learning from Demonstration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robots can learn manipulation tasks from human demonstrations. This work proposes a versatile method to identify the physical interactions that occur in a demonstration, such as sequences of different contacts and interactions with mechanical constraints.

The classical theory of preference among monetary bets represents people as expected utility maximizers with nondecreasing concave utility functions. Critics of this account often rely on assumptions about preferences over wide ranges of total wealth. We

Tumbling Magnetic Microrobots for Targeted In Vivo Drug Delivery in the GI Tract

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
We introduce a microrobot design and integrated system for on‐demand targeted drug release in the gastrointestinal tract. The microrobot has an embedded magnet for actuation with external magnetic fields and is visualized in real time using ultrasound. It has two drug release ports sealed with a thermally sensitive wax. Local heating of the wax using a

A synthesis of location models [PDF]

open access: yes
This article considers a model of spatial competition where firms and consumers are located in a semicircular space rather than in the whole circle (Salop's model) or the linear city (Hotelling's model), under the assumptions of both, convex and concave,

Evaluation of the reliability and relationship with physical examination of a novel ultrasound index, the “concave sign,” for symptomatic hip labral tears

open access: yesJournal of Joint Surgery and Research
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability of a novel ultrasound index, the “concave sign,” obtained by ultrasound observation, and to evaluate its association with physical examination.

Origami‐Inspired Structural Design for Aquatic‐Terrestrial Amphibious Robots

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a lightweight amphibious origami robot actuated by a single shape memory alloy wire. A rigid foldable origami structure with displacement amplification enables efficient terrestrial crawling and aquatic swimming. The addition of fan‐shaped units allows controllable turning in both environments.
