Aggregate Concentration, Market Concentration and Diversification

The Economic Journal, 1983
Studies of business concentration have traditionally focused on two alternative levels of aggregation. Overall, or aggregate, concentration is concerned with the extent to which the macro-economy (or broad sectors thereof) is dominated by the largest firms: this is commonly measured by the share of aggregate activity accounted for by the largest ioo ...

Concentration, Price, and Critical Concentration Ratios

The Review of Economics and Statistics, 1981
A potentially important parameter that has not yet been convincingly estimated is the critical concentration ratio. This paper attempts to estimate it in three types of market. The estimation of a critical concentration ratio, if one exists, seems of potentially great importance because of its implication for antitrust policy.

Practical concentrators attaining maximal concentration

Optics Letters, 1980
A new class of radiation concentrators is described that achieve maximal concentration of radiation from a uniform source. Unlike ideal concentrators, which accept all radiation within a given acceptance angle and none outside, the new maximal concentration collectors may reject some radiation from within the nominal acceptance angle.

Concentrating on Concentration

The Journal of Portfolio Management, 2004
Factor models seek to reduce the impact of spurious in-sample correlations on the estimation of a covariance matrix of security returns. Among U.S. equities, market value is concentrated in a small number of assets both across the market and within industry sectors. Over 50% of market value, for example, is captured by 1% of assets.

Closurize and concentrate

Proceedings of the 12th ACM SIGACT-SIGPLAN symposium on Principles of programming languages - POPL '85, 1985

Abstract In a new dataset of 1.3 million firms from over 100 countries, I establish a number of regularities in cross-country differences in economic concentration. Concentration of sales and employment is substantially higher in smaller countries and in less-developed countries; these two factors alone explain roughly half the cross-country ...

Advertising and Concentration

The Journal of Industrial Economics, 1977
DESPITE a decade of study, economists have been unable to agree on advertising's impact on concentration. Telser [I9], [20], Ekelund, Gramm, and Maurice [5], [6], [7] argue that advertising has no effect on concentration. Mann, Henning, and Meehan [I o], [I I], [I2], [I3] contend that the two are intimately connected.
