Evaluation of the Trends, Concomitant Procedures, and Complications With Open and Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repairs in the Medicare Population

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2017
Background: Medicare insures the largest population of patients at risk for rotator cuff tears in the United States. Purpose: To evaluate the trends in incidence, concomitant procedures, and complications with open and arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs ...

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Concomitant administration of diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis and inactivated poliovirus vaccine derived from Sabin strains (DTaP-sIPV) with pentavalent rotavirus vaccine in Japanese infants

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2017
Rotavirus is the leading cause of severe acute gastroenteritis in infants and young children. Most children are infected with rotavirus, and the health and economic burdens of rotavirus gastroenteritis on healthcare systems and families are considerable.

The effect of concomitant peripheral injury on traumatic brain injury pathobiology and outcome

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2016
Traumatic injuries are physical insults to the body that are prevalent worldwide. Many individuals involved in accidents suffer injuries affecting a number of extremities and organs, otherwise known as multitrauma or polytrauma. Traumatic brain injury is

Novel and unscrutinized immune entities of the zebrafish gut

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Understudied cells of the zebrafish immune system include bona fide immune cells and epithelial (‐derived) cells with immune functions. Research focusing on zebrafish cells which demonstrate similarities to mammalian immune cell counterparts may help us understand the pathologies in which they are implicated. Currently available and advanced tools make

Telitacicept as double-targeted therapy for myasthenia gravis coexisting with connective tissue disease: three case reports

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Myasthenia gravis (MG) and connective tissue diseases (CTD) are both B-cell-mediated, antibody-associated autoimmune diseases that share similar mechanisms of immune dysfunction.
