An inverse association between West Nile virus serostatus and avian malaria infection status

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2014
Background Various ecological and physiological mechanisms might influence the probability that two or more pathogens may simultaneously or sequentially infect a host individual.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Clinical characteristics of the course of HIV infection with concomitant cryoglobulinemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper describes clinical cases of HIV-infection with concomitant cryopathy at different clinical stages. The peculiarities of HIV/AIDS according to comorbidity and the effect of different modes of treatment on the phenomenon of cryoglobulinemia have

Outcomes of concomitant Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia and cytomegalovirus co-infection in non-HIV, mechanically ventilated critically ill patients

open access: yesAnnals of Medicine
Purpose Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) is a potentially life-threatening opportunistic infection. Recent studies have demonstrated a poor prognosis and higher mortality rate in non-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients, with associated risk

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Concomitant Toxoplasma and Toxocara infections.

open access: yesThe Journal of the Egyptian Public Health Association, 1992
Toxoplasmosis being to a large extent a soil transmitted infection is acquired in the same manner and often at the same time as toxocariasis, the source being concomitantly infected cats. 110 sera of patients suspected of toxoplasmosis and found positive by the indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT), were also tested for Toxocara antibodies by the ...
