Gross Agricultural Emissions and Unequal Mitigation Pathways in the Brazilian Legal Amazon: Implications for Climate Justice and the Sustainable Development Goals

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Climate mitigation policies in the Brazilian Legal Amazon have largely focused on aggregate or net emissions, providing limited evidence on how gross agricultural emissions reveal the intensity of productive emission sources independently of carbon removals.

Assessing Environmental and Economic Performance for Port Hydrogen Fuel Transition: A Case Study of Vancouver Fraser Port Authority

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As society continues to develop, hydrogen has emerged as a promising fuel for maritime decarbonization. This study develops an integrated environmental and economic assessment framework for the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) by combining life‐cycle assessment, levelized cost analysis, and multi‐criteria decision analysis across 36 ...

Caloric restriction extends yeast chronological lifespan by altering a pattern of age-related changes in trehalose concentration

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2012
The nonreducing disaccharide trehalose has been long considered only as a reserve carbohydrate. However, recent studies in yeast suggested that this osmolyte can protect cells and cellular proteins from oxidative damage elicited by exogenously added ...

Coregistration of Multimodal Imaging Mass Spectrometry and Optical Images of Tissue Sections at Single‐Cell Resolution

open access: yesSurface and Interface Analysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Accurate alignment of histopathological structures in optical images and imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) datasets is crucial for providing meaningful biological interpretation. Integrating IMS with optical or other imaging modalities remains challenging due to sample‐preparation constraints, mismatched spatial resolutions, and the need for ...

Empirical Validation of a Hypothesis of the Hormetic Selective Forces Driving the Evolution of Longevity Regulation Mechanisms

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2016
Exogenously added lithocholic bile acid and some other bile acids slow down yeast chronological aging by eliciting a hormetic stress response and altering mitochondrial functionality. Unlike animals, yeast cells do not synthesize bile acids. We therefore

Divine Self‐Placement, Sacred Placemaking: The Virgin of El Rocío and Territorial Custodianship in Early Modern Spain

open access: yesJournal of Religious History, EarlyView.
This essay argues that the Rocío hallazgo legend employs divine self‐placement to turn territorial uncertainty into sacred stewardship. The Virgin's miraculous refusal to move establishes the marshlands of Las Rocinas as a communal religious site, transforming a marginal and legally ambiguous area.

Is it stress? The role of stress related systems in chronic food restriction-induced augmentation of heroin seeking in the rat

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2013
Drug addiction is a chronic disease characterized by recurring episodes of abstinence and relapse. The precise mechanisms underlying this pattern are yet to be elucidated, but stress is thought to be a major factor in relapse.

Understanding Mammalian Habitat Use With a Multi‐Species, Multi‐Scale Approach: The Jaguar Protection Corridor in Guaviare, Colombia

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We applied a multi‐scale, multi‐species framework to quantify how landscape structure and human infrastructure influence habitat use across a terrestrial mammal community within a biological corridor in the Colombian Amazon. Forest cover and spatial configuration influenced wildlife habitat use at spatial scales associated with species dispersal ...
