Fish carcass deposition to suppress invasive lake trout through hypoxia causes limited, non‐target effects on benthic invertebrates in Yellowstone Lake

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 470-483, December 2022., 2022
In Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming, lake trout carcasses are used to suppress invasive lake trout embryos in an effort to conserve native Yellowstone cutthroat trout. Using a field experiment, we determined that carcass treatment had limited, non‐target effects on benthic invertebrates.

Analysis of Construction Process and Configuration Automatic Monitoring for the Spoke-Type Single-Layer Cable Net Structure

open access: yesBuildings
As a full tension structural system, the spoke-type single-layer cable net structure has a light graceful shape and superior mechanical properties. During construction, the structure will gradually be tensioned from the flexible unstressed state to the ...

Quantifying the visual concreteness of words and topics in multimodal datasets [PDF]

open access: yes2018 North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics: Human Language Technologies (NAACL HLT), 2018
Multimodal machine learning algorithms aim to learn visual-textual correspondences. Previous work suggests that concepts with concrete visual manifestations may be easier to learn than concepts with abstract ones. We give an algorithm for automatically computing the visual concreteness of words and topics within multimodal datasets.

Cigarette filter material and polypropylene fibres in concrete to control drying shrinkage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Due to a reduction in demand for cigarette filter material (North East UK), significant quantities have arisen that have little commercial value. The filter manufacturers have been looking for another outlet for their product and polypropylene fibre ...

Predicting 2D Crystal Packing in Thin Films of Small Molecule Organic Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A computational method is proposed for predicting the 2D molecular packing in crystalline thin films of flexible organic molecules. The approach employs a grid search for molecular arrangements, achieving accurate predictions of 2D packing motifs with strongly reduced computational costs.

The multifactorial aquaculture‐related COVID‐19 shock in Benin, West Africa: A socio‐economic perspective of mitigating the disruptive impacts on the small‐scale and subsistence producers

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 2, Issue 6, Page 507-521, December 2022., 2022
Graphical Abstract This study deals with a timely topic, COVID‐19, whose impacts on aquaculture have never been quantified in Benin. Direct discussions were held with aquaculture producers to understand how they are feeling the impact of the pandemic on their business.
