Buckling strength of thin-shell concrete arch dams

Thin-Walled Structures, 2013
An investigation has been undertaken on the buckling strength of concrete arch dams in the form of thin shells of single and double curvature. When subjected to the hydrostatic pressure exerted by the retained water, the shell experiences predominantly compressive internal actions, which can result in buckling failure of the thin shell.

Characterization of the dynamic behavior of a concrete arch dam by means of forced vibration tests and numerical models

Earthquake engineering & structural dynamics (Print), 2020
The characterization of the dynamic behavior of an arch dam, and its evolution throughout the structure's lifetime, provides important data for the safety control process. Forced vibration tests remain a reliable technique for this purpose.

Concrete Arch Dam's Foundation Interception Range Analysis

2013 Fourth International Conference on Digital Manufacturing & Automation, 2013
There is big difference in the foundation size selection of the concrete arch dam considering the upstream reservoir water load, so the 3-D FEM is constructed with the typical high arch dam in 300 m class in this paper, to analyze the displacement and stress under the condition that foundation depth and left and right banks foundation size are fixed ...

Earthquake safety assessment of concrete arch and gravity dams

Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration, 2005
Based on research studies currently being carried out at Dalian University of Technology, some important aspects for the earthquake safety assessment of concrete dams are reviewed and discussed. First, the rate-dependent behavior of concrete subjected to earthquake loading is examined, emphasizing the properties of concrete under cyclic and biaxial ...

Statistical Analysis of Monitoring Data for Concrete Arch Dams

Journal of Performance of Constructed Facilities, 1995
Major dams in the world are often instrumented and monitored in order to detect anomalies, and to enable a timely response either in the form of repairs, reservoir management, or evacuation. Traditionally, the analysis of monitoring data has been done on an instrument-by-instrument basis, which is tedious to perform and difficult to interpret.

The Concrete Arch Dam

1993
The Plymouth Engineering Design Centre (PEDC) is one of the seven Science and Engineering Research Council funded Design Centres that have been established at various academic institutions within the UK. The initial aim of the PEDC is to carry out fundamental research into the application of adaptive search techniques to engineering design.

Analysis of High Concrete Arch Dam Thermal-Creep-Stress

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
The calculation of thermal stress is important to high concrete arch dam. In the progress of construction simulation analysis, the distribution of thermal stresses should be paid attention for it has great influence to arch design and rapid construction. The impacts on thermal stress are water temperature and air temperature and so on.

Continuous production line for concreting the Inguri arch dams

Hydrotechnical Construction, 1984
1. The use of the conveyor system for delivering the concrete mix to the blocks of the Inguri arch dam under construction made it possible to increase labor productivity and to reduce the cost of the works. 2. The combination of a conveyor system for transporting the concrete mix and a continuous concrete plant, accomplished for the ...
