Need for Diaphragms in Concrete Box Girders
Journal of the Structural Division, 1971The action of diaphragms in single-cell concrete box girders is covered with particular reference to torsional loading. A simple analysis of the distortion of boxes is presented in which the webs are treated as beams on elastic foundations. An empirical factor for the effective span of the top and bottom plates has been selected to agree with ...

<p>The box girder is today the most widely used superstructure in cocnrete bridge construction. The aim of this document is to relieve the engineer of the study of today's hardly surveyable mass of literature on the subject so that he can better devote that time to the actual design of the bridge.

Design and Analysis of a Prestressed Concrete Box Girder
1994New codes for the design of concrete structures in The Netherlands give designers the opportunity to utilize the possibilities of partial prestressed concrete. It will be possible in bridge construction to combine prestressing and reinforcement so that the result will be optimal; technically and economically.

Prefabrication of concrete box girder bridges
1991The technologies described in this paper allow the construction of prestressed concrete bridges, precast in a monolithic form both for simply supported and continuous beams. It combines durability, speed of construction and economy. Particular reference is made to construction of a viaduct with a continuous box girder deck under construction in a ...

Transverse assessment of a concrete box girder bridge
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Bridge Engineering, 2017This paper looks at the beneficial effects of geometric arching from haunches, web continuity and compressive membrane action in the design and assessment of box girder top slabs. The paper initially reviews tests relevant to arching action in box girders and then analyses recent tests on box girder slab strips.

Temperature variation of concrete box girder bridge
Frontiers of Architecture and Civil Engineering in China, 2009On the basis of theoretical analysis and measurement on site, the temperature gradients and its variation on concrete box girder bridges resulting from ambient temperature, solar radiation, and structural temperature fields were discussed. With the help of the heat transfer theory and finite element method (FEM), the heat flux of the surface of ...

The Collapse and Reconstruction of a Prestressed Concrete Box-Section Girder
1977During the construction of a prefabricated hall roof, a 25 m long prestressed box-section girder collapsed. The major cause of the failure was an inadequate structural design of the support regions. There was no transverse end beam present and support bearing points were not placed beneath the webs of the girder.

Torsional Design of Hybrid Concrete Box Girders
Journal of Bridge Engineering, 2006Hybrid concrete box-girder bridges that include prestressed slabs and corrugated steel webs provide a major improvement over traditional prestressed concrete box-girder bridges. To reduce the self-weight, high strength concrete is used for the top and bottom slabs and corrugated steel webs are employed for the webs.
