Analysis of concrete columns with high-performance concrete jackets and polymer wraps

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2022
Cross-sectional analyses of circular and square reinforced concrete (RC) columns strengthened with reactive powder concrete jacketing and fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) wrapping were undertaken. The stress block method was used to determine theoretical axial load–bending moment (AL–BM) interactions of the columns.

Experimental Study on Steel Jacket–Concrete Composite Connections

Journal of Bridge Engineering, 2017
AbstractSteel–concrete composite frame bridges have larger structural stiffness, lower cost, and faster construction speed than traditional bridges because a combination of steel–concrete composite girders, concrete piers, and steel–concrete composite connections is used. In this type of composite bridge, the most important part is the connection joint

Stress transmission of retrofitted concrete columns to jackets

Magazine of Concrete Research, 2009
Concrete jacketing is one of the most common retrofitting techniques for concrete columns. However, the stress transmission mechanisms of this system are still not fully understood and appropriate design procedures are still not established. In this experimental study eight jacketed columns with different stirrup arrangements and various bonding ...

Concrete Confinement with Textile-Reinforced Mortar Jackets

ACI Structural Journal, 2006
The application of textile-reinforced mortars (TRMs) as a means of increasing the axial capacity of concrete through confinement is investigated experimentally in this study. TRM may be thought of as an alternative to fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs), addressing many of the problems associated with application of the latter without compromising ...

Seismic behaviour of concrete jacketed columns in buildings

Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Structures and Buildings, 2014
An existing reinforced concrete building with moment-resisting frames can be vulnerable during an earthquake owing to its deficient columns. The present paper reports a study on the enhancement of flexural strength and behaviour of columns, by concrete jacketing.

Zinc Mesh Anodes Cast into Concrete Pile Jackets

CORROSION 1996, 1996
Abstract A sacrificial anode cathodic protection system has been designed to provide corrosion control to the splash area as well as the submerged portion of reinforced concrete bridge pilings in marine environments. The system consists of a two piece stay in place fiberglass form provided with a internally placed expanded zinc mesh ...

Flexural Behavior of Brittle RC Members Rehabilitated with Concrete Jacketing

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2007
The composite flexural action of prismatic reinforced concrete (RC) members repaired/strengthened by RC jacketing was modeled with a dual-section approach. The model considers the relative slip at the interface between the existing member and the jacket and establishes the mechanisms that are mobilized to resist this action, thereby supporting ...

Axial preloading effects when reinforced concrete columns are strengthened by concrete jackets

Progress in Structural Engineering and Materials, 2006
AbstractThis paper investigates the effects of axial preload on concrete columns that have been strengthened by placing concrete jackets. Most of the research in the world in the area of strengthening concrete columns has been performed without taking into account preloading effects.

CONCRETE CONFINEMENT WITH SUSTAINABLE HTS-SHCC JACKETS

Over the past few years, the engineering community has faced the challenge of enhancing the strength and rehabilitation of existing concrete and masonry structures through the implementation of eco-friendly and efficient strengthening methods. One effective system that has emerged is the use of Strain-Hardening Cementitious Composites (SHCC), which ...
