A Heterogeneous Conditional Logit Model of Choice

Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, 1988
Aggregate forecasts using McFadden's conditional logit model of discrete choice harbor the unrealistic implicit assumption of a random-utility distribution that is homogeneous across both alternatives and individuals. This article relaxes that assumption.

A conditional logit model of collegiate major selection

Journal of Vocational Behavior, 1982
Abstract The choice of a major by a college student is viewed as depending upon the quantity of various outputs (such as income and status) each major provides and the taste structure of the student for these outputs. Tradeoffs in outputs occur so that high status may overcome low-income potential in the occupation into which the major provides entry.

Interpretation issues in heteroscedastic conditional logit models

2016
This paper identifies an issue with interpretation of significance within heteroscedastic conditional logit models, due to sensitivity of reported results to arbitrary variable-normalization decisions. We advocate the use of willingness-to-pay (WTP) space models to avoid this, as estimates of WTP do not exhibit this effect.

The Robustness of Conditional Logit for Binary Response Panel Data Models with Serial Correlation

Journal of Econometric Methods, 2021
Abstract We examine the conditional logit estimator for binary panel data models with unobserved heterogeneity. A key assumption used to derive the conditional logit estimator is conditional serial independence (CI), which is problematic when the underlying innovations are serially correlated.

A Conditional Logit Model of Occupational Choice

Journal of Political Economy, 1974
The theory of human capital' provides a convenient framework for analyzing the choice of occupation by individual workers. The present paper is devoted to an investigation of the implications of this framework. Section II briefly discusses the human capital approach to occupational choice.

Price Competition Under Mixed Multinomial Logit Demand: Sufficiency Conditions for Validating the Model

Production and Operations Management, 2021
This study is motivated by a fundamental question among researchers: do price data correspond to a pure strategy Nash equilibrium of an estimated econometric model of Bertrand competition? The affirmative answer to this question is essential for validating the estimated model.

A conditional logit model for executive incentives

Economics Letters, 1983
Abstract In this paper, firm and executive characteristics are directly related to the probability of termination of the contract of the chief executive of a firm. A conditional logit model is specified from which implications concerning profit maximization can be inferred.
