Hardy's Condition in the Moment Problem for Probability Distributions [PDF]
In probabilistic terms Hardy's condition is written as follows: ${\bf E}\,[e^{c{\sqrt X}}] 0$ a constant. If this holds, then all moments of $X$ are finite and the distribution of $X$ is uniquely determined by the moments (M-determinate). This condition, based on two papers by Hardy (1917/1918), is weaker than Cramer's condition requiring the existence

This study presents a novel in situ laser‐induced breakdown spectroscopy system for monitoring metal vapors produced by the intense laser‐metal interactions in laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing and laser welding. The insights from this new technique reveal changes in alloy compositions and provide the first in situ validation of multi ...

The statistics of urban scaling and their connection to Zipf's law. [PDF]
Urban scaling relations characterizing how diverse properties of cities vary on average with their population size have recently been shown to be a general quantitative property of many urban systems around the world.

Synaptic vesicle (SV) motion and exocytosis dynamics in the presynaptic terminals of live neurons are intimately linked to synaptic transmission during neuronal activity. In this work, it is revealed that, during electrical stimulation, SVs located farther from their fusion sites exhibit greater straightness and experience larger mean forces directed ...

Quasi-stationary distributions for reducible absorbing Markov chains in discrete time [PDF]
We consider discrete-time Markov chains with one coffin state and a finite set $S$ of transient states, and are interested in the limiting behaviour of such a chain as time $n \to \infty,$ conditional on survival up to $n$.

Meta‐GWAS of Pig Semen Quality Traits Reveals Conserved Genes Regulating Mammalian Fertility
This study incorporated 14 210 individuals to perform a GWAS meta‐analysis of six semen quality traits. The GWAS meta‐analysis identifies 234 GWAS loci associated with semen quality traits. The incorporation with a functional genomics resource explains potential genetic regulation of ∼40% GWAS signals underlying semen quality traits.

Conditional Frequentist Test on Normal Mean Parameter and its application in entomological data
In the traditional tests the value of type I error (α) is fixed, on the other hand, in the conditional frequentist test we propose a partition of the region of rejection and acceptance so that the probability of error presented is dependent on the ...
