Parabolicity and Hyperbolicity Conditions for Boundary Elements of Surfaces
Mathematical Notes, 2001The author proves some criteria for parabolicity and hyperbolicity of simple ends of surfaces without boundary. These criteria are formulated by means of the capacity distance. As is noted at the end of this paper the parabolicity and hyperbolicity remain invariant under \((r, \alpha)\)-quasiisometries.

General conditions for the decomposition of state holding elements
Proceedings Second International Symposium on Advanced Research in Asynchronous Circuits and Systems, 2002A fundamental problem in the design of speed-independent asynchronous circuits is the decomposition or splitting up of high-fanin operators into two or more lower-fanin operators. In this paper, we develop general techniques to decided whether a particular decomposition of an arbitrary state-holding or combinational element into two elements with an ...

A new associative conditioning element for consummatory classical conditioning
1991This thesis documents the development, operation, and performance of a new nonlinear analog system designed to exhibit a wide range of (mainly) consummatory classical conditioning behaviour. This new system, referred to hereafter as the Associative Conditioning Element (ACE), may be categorised as a functioning Artificial Neural Network (ANN) element ...

Interpolated Boundary Conditions in the Finite Element Method
SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1975This paper shows that the technique introduced in Berger, Scott and Strang [2] can achieve optimal accuracy if the approximating functions interpolate boundary conditions at the Lobatto quadrature points for each element edge on the boundary. No modification of the energy form is required.

The condition of the least‐squares finite element matrices
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2015SummaryA universal, practical, a priori, numerical procedure is presented by which to realistically bind the spectral condition number of the global stiffness matrix generated by the finite element least‐squares method. The procedure is then applied to second and fourth‐order problems in one and two dimensions to show that the condition of the global ...

On the Maximum Angle Condition for Linear Tetrahedral Elements
SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis, 1992Summary: Synge's maximum angle condition for triangular elements is generalized to tetrahedral elements. For the generalized condition, it is proved that tetrahedra may degenerate in a certain way and the error of the standard linear interpolation remains \(O(h)\) in the \(W^ 1_ p(\Omega)\)-norm for sufficiently smooth functions and \(p\in[1,\infty]\).
