Switching Spike Plasticity Shapes ACE2 Engagement Across SARS‐CoV‐2 Variants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conformational plasticity governs SARS‐CoV‐2 spike function and ACE2 recognition. Using high‐speed AFM and single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we analyzed the ancestral spike and nine variants, revealing progressive rigidification from Delta, variable plasticity in Omicron sublineages, and JN.1 compaction.

Comparing condom use with different types of partners : evidence from national HIV surveys in Africa [PDF]

open access: yes
Based on nationally representative samples from 13 Sub-Saharan African countries, this paper reinforces and expands previous findings that condom use in general is low in this region, men report using condoms more frequently than women, and unmarried ...

Targeting β2‐Adrenergic Receptor Stability With Lycorine Reveals a Host‐Directed Pathway for Antiviral Defense Against Poxviruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic stress drives autophagy‐mediated β2‐AR degradation, impairing antiviral immunity and promoting poxvirus lethality. Lycorine directly stabilizes β2‐AR to restore host defense, suppress excessive inflammation and improve survival. ABSTRACT Psychological stress is a pervasive yet poorly understood modulator of infectious disease outcomes. Here, we

ZBTB18 Dysfunction Promotes Neuropathic Pain via CHD4‐based Epigenetic Disinhibition of CLIC1 Channels in Sensory Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a novel functional role of ZBTB18 in regulating trigeminal‐mediated neuropathic pain. Nerve injury reduces ZBTB18 in trigeminal ganglion neurons, impairing CHD4/NuRD recruitment and de‐repressing Clic1. Elevated CLIC1 enhances chloride channel activity and neuronal hyperexcitability, thereby driving pain.

Intelligent Programmable Membrane Nanosponge for Early Virus Blocking

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A smart programmable nanosponge (ACNPs) displays high‐density viral receptors on its membrane and encapsulates fusion inhibitors to capture virions at the infection source through competitive binding and blocks their entry through protease inhibition for ultra‐early cascade interception. This modular, mucus‐penetrating platform shifts antiviral defence

Retrospective analysis of the prevalence of and factors associated with condom use among young HIV-infected women in Cameroon

open access: yesSAGE Open Medicine, 2016
Objectives: Young women are more likely to be infected with HIV globally, in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Cameroon. Despite its clear clinical and public health benefits, condom use among HIV-infected women continues to be low.

Abstract Representation of Movement Parameters in Basal Ganglia Output

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The basal ganglia output provides a scalable velocity/position signal across behavioral contexts, supporting the idea that these variables are represented in the brain as abstract entities rather than as fixed changes in joint angles or specific sets of body effectors.

Hostile Sexism Predicts Negative Attitudes Toward Condom Use

open access: yesSAGE Open
Attitudes toward condom use are among the best predictors of condom use. However, it is not entirely clear how these attitudes are shaped. This study aimed to assess the role of sexism in condom use attitudes.

Supramolecular Zinc–Polyphenol Coordination Assemblies Mitigate Colonic Inflammation by Regulating Mucosal Barrier and Microbiome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A carrier‐free zinc‐coordinated polyphenol nanoplatform (ZnCA NPs) is designed as an “all‐in‐one” therapeutic strategy for intestinal inflammation. The ZnCA NPs exhibit enhanced colonic accumulation and broad‐spectrum reactive oxygen and nitrogen species scavenging.
