An Adaptive Management Model for Brown Bears in Hokkaido: Based on Total Population and the Number of Nuisance Bears

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Bear management changes management actions according to the horizontal axis of the population size and the vertical axis of the number of nuisance bears. Aiming for the target population size of Ntar, Actions I and II protect the bears, and Action IV reduces the population.

Case Report: Leadless and left bundle branch area pacemakers, complementary advantages require a personalized approach

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
Traditional transvenous pacemakers consist of a pacemaker generator usually positioned surgically in the upper left chest on the pectoral muscle fascia and one or more leads positioned through the veins to the right atrium and across the tricuspid valve ...

Unsolved Questions on the Anatomy of the Ventricular Conduction System

open access: yesKorean Circulation Journal, 2018
We reviewed the anatomical characteristics of the conduction system in the ventricles of human and ungulate hearts and then raised some questions to be answered by clinical and anatomical studies in the future.

Self-similar solutions of viscous and resistive ADAFs with thermal conduction

open access: yes, 2011
We have studied the effects of thermal conduction on the structure of viscous and resistive advection-dominated accretion flows (ADAFs). The importance of thermal conduction on hot accretion flow is confirmed by observations of hot gas that surrounds Sgr

The epithelial barrier theory proposes a comprehensive explanation for the origins of allergic and other chronic noncommunicable diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Developmental Origin of the Cardiac Conduction System: Insight from Lineage Tracing

open access: yesPediatric Cardiology, 2018
The components of the cardiac conduction system (CCS) generate and propagate the electrical impulse that initiates cardiac contraction. These interconnected components share properties, such as automaticity, that set them apart from the working ...

ERBIN limits epithelial cell plasticity via suppression of TGF‐β signaling

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In breast and lung cancer patients, low ERBIN expression correlates with poor clinical outcomes. Here, we show that ERBIN inhibits TGF‐β‐induced epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in NMuMG breast and A549 lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. ERBIN suppresses TGF‐β/SMAD signaling and reduces TGF‐β‐induced ERK phosphorylation.

Transient 2:1 Atrioventricular Block with Peri-Conduction System Pacing After Leadless Pacemaker Implantation [PDF]

open access: yesTexas Heart Institute Journal
This report discusses a case of transient 2:1 atrioventricular block with conduction system pacing 4 hours after leadless right ventricular pacemaker implantation in a 19-year-old patient with a history of cardioinhibitory syncope and asystole cardiac ...

The formation and function of the cardiac conduction system

open access: yesDevelopment, 2016
The cardiac conduction system (CCS) consists of distinctive components that initiate and conduct the electrical impulse required for the coordinated contraction of the cardiac chambers.

Decoherence processes of a quantum two-level system coupled to a fermionic environment

open access: yes, 2007
We study decoherence processes of an S = 1/2 localized spin coupled to conduction band electrons in a metal or a semiconductor via an Ising-like interaction.
