Effect of height on nerve conduction velocity

The effect of height on nerve conduction velocity (NCV) was studied in 41 normal subjects. Peroneal and sural NCV correlated inversely with height and with estimated axonal length, whereas median motor and sensory NCV failed to show any significant relationship to height.

Simultaneous micro-electrode recordings of muscle sympathetic activity were made in the radial nerve at the mid-humerus level and the peroneal nerve at the fibular head in 8 healthy subjects. Sympathetic impulses occurred spontaneously in multi-unit bursts time-locked to the cardiac rhythm.

The Maximization of Nerve Conduction Velocity

Histological and electrical examination of high-speed (myelinated) nerve fibers reveals a coaxial RC cable whose inner conductor has from 40 to 80 percent of the diameter of the outer conductor.
