Brachycephaly in French bulldogs and pugs is associated with narrow ear canals

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 33, Issue 3, Page 214-e60, June 2022., 2022
Background Brachycephalic dog breeds have multiple skull malformations which may lead to anatomical changes in the external auditory canal. It is our frequent observation that in the otoscopic examination of the external ear in these breeds we are unable to visualise the tympanic membrane as a consequence of extreme narrowing of the proximal ear canal.

Cytological evaluation, culture and genomics to evaluate the microbiome in healthy rabbit external ear canals

open access: yesVeterinary Dermatology, Volume 35, Issue 5, Page 479-491, October 2024.
Background – Lop‐eared rabbits may be predisposed to otitis externa (OE) as a consequence of their ear conformation. Although otoscopy, otic cytological evaluation, and culture are valuable tools in dogs and cats, published data on rabbits remain lacking. Hypothesis/Objectives – This study aimed to assess the utility of otoscopy and cytological results

Medication‐related osteonecrosis of the external auditory canal – A rapid review of the literature and relevance to special care dentists

open access: yesSpecial Care in Dentistry, Volume 44, Issue 2, Page 314-327, March/April 2024.
Abstract Aims There is growing evidence that anti‐resorptive and anti‐angiogenic medications can cause medication‐related osteonecrosis of the external auditory canal (MROEAC). It is possible that patients taking risk medications may also suffer from concomitant medication ‐related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) or temporomandibular joint (TMJ ...
