Research on Numerical Simulation of Quad Bundle Conductor on Galloping
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013The models of the multi-bundled conductors are constructed by finite element method in this paper. The numerical results are given by using the 4th order Runge-Kutta method considering aerodynamic parameter of sub-conductor. The simulation results are obtained on galloping of quad bundle conductors with the different span. Thus some effective numerical

Conductor Galloping Part I - Den Hartog Mechanism
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1981The results of detailed aerodynamic tests in the wind tunnel, over a practical range of natural ice shapes and wind speeds, suggest that the Den Hartog mechanism is not the cause for conductor galloping on overhead lines. These results also demonstrate the inadequacy of static aerodynamic data and the importance of damping in predicting dynamic ...

Proposed Friction Damper for Galloping Conductor Waves
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1967The standing wave effects of galloping conductor motion are analyzed in terms of parameters which may be evaluated in accordance with traditional procedures for dealing with analogous steady-state and transient phenomena in elementary electrical circuits.

Effectiveness of a Roller Damper in Suppressing Conductor Galloping
International Applied Mechanics, 2016A new method to suppress conductor galloping with a roller damper as a component of a vibration isolation system is proposed. The dynamic behavior of the system is mathematically modeled taking into account the turn of the system together with damper due to the vertical deviation of the insulator set.

Numerical Investigation on Galloping of Iced Quad Bundle Conductors
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2012The aerodynamic coefficients of each subconductor in an iced quad bundle conductor covered with crescent-shaped and sector-shaped cross-sections were determined by the wind tunnel test. A cable element with torsional degree of freedom used to simulate the iced conductor is obtained in ABAQUS software by releasing the two bending degrees of freedom and ...

Galloping analysis of stranded electricity conductors in skew winds
Wind and Structures, 2008When first commissioned, the 1.6 km span 275kV Severn Crossing Conductor experienced large amplitude vibrations in certain wind conditions, but without ice or rain, leading to flashover between the conductor phases. Wind tunnel tests undertaken at the time identified a major factor was the lift generated in the critical Reynolds number range in skew ...

State of the art of conductor galloping
2007Galloping is a low frequency, high amplitude wind induced vibration of both single and bundle conductors, with a single or a few loops of standing waves per span. Galloping has a major impact on the design of overhead lines, for both clearances and tower loadings.

A study of galloping conductors on a 230 kV transmission line
Electric Power Systems Research, 1991Abstract The paper studies galloping of three-phase conductor spans on a transmission line. The spans most likely to gallop, the causes, field data, and antigallop device technologies are considered. The various remedies are ranked according to installation cost, performance, and other factors.
