Cone-Beam CT: Applications in Orthodontics

Dental Clinics of North America, 2008
Radiographic images have always been an important part of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. We have been limited by the two-dimensional nature of these radiographs as we pursue tooth movement in a three-dimensional fashion. This article shows the current and future uses and advantages of cone-beam CT in the practice of orthodontics. The use

Cone-Beam CT: Vascular Applications

Techniques in Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2013
Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) provides three-dimensional rendering of opacified vascular structures that are very useful for catheter guidance and anatomical correlation in many arterial and venous procedures. CBCT has been shown to improve the technical success of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), which may lead to better outcomes ...

Cone Beam CT

2018
Cone beam computed tomography is a form of tomographic imaging. It is a derivative of multidetector computed tomography. CBCT is a technology characterized by compromises. As a consequence, CBCT has limited capabilities, most notably the inability to differentiate soft tissue densities and meager computational capacities of the image-processing system.

Correction of scatter in megavoltage cone-beam CT

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2001
The role of scatter in a cone-beam computed tomography system using the therapeutic beam of a medical linear accelerator and a commercial electronic portal imaging device (EPID) is investigated. A scatter correction method is presented which is based on a superposition of Monte Carlo generated scatter kernels.

Exact cone beam CT with a spiral scan

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1998
A method is developed which makes it possible to scan and reconstruct an object with cone beam x-rays in a spiral scan path with area detectors much shorter than the length of the object. The method is mathematically exact. If only a region of interest of the object is to be imaged, a top circle scan at the top level of the region of interest and a ...

Image artifact in dental cone-beam CT

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and Endodontology, 2006
The purpose of this study was to investigate the appearance and possible cause of an artifact seen in limited-volume cone-beam CT imaging.A water-filled plastic cylinder was used as a phantom of the head. A test object was constructed as a bone-equivalent phantom to be imaged.

Cone beam CT in diagnostics of facial trauma

Stomatologiya, 2016
The article provides a review of domestic and international scientific literature to reveal the possibilities of cone-beam computed tomography in facial trauma diagnostics. The ratio of maxillofacial trauma continues to grow progressively. The current situation increases the need for high-quality, fast and extremely informative radiology diagnosis for ...

Multislice and Cone-beam CT

2015
So far, this book has focused on the detector configuration in which a single row of a detector is irradiated by the x-ray beam. Although helical (spiral) CT has significantly improved volume coverage, many clinical applications demand an even greater volume coverage and thinner slices. A good example is CT angiography.

Cone-Beam CT Systems

2019
Cone-beam CT (CBCT) systems have emerged in a broad variety of forms and clinical applications. The diversity of platforms includes open-gantry C-arms and U-arms as well as closed-gantry rings. Applications span a spectrum of image-guided interventions (e.g., image-guided radiotherapy, surgery, and interventional radiology) and specialty diagnostic ...

Application of Cone-beam CT in the Office Setting

Dental Clinics of North America, 2008
The decision to incorporate cone-beam CT (CBCT) into a dental practice is one that requires serious consideration and careful planning. In the early days of the technology, fewer sources of information existed and a community of users often shared ideas and prompted the advancement of the products.
