Discussion of ‘‘Re-Examination of Undrained Strength at Atterberg Limits Water Contents’’ by H.B. Nagaraj, A. Sridharan & H.M. Mallikarjuna [PDF]
Having recently investigated soil strength at the Atterberg limits, the discussers read the paper by Nagaraj et al. (2012) with interest. Whilst some of the conclusions of the paper concur with those of our own work, there are other areas in which we ...

A track-type underwater construction robot (URI-R) was developed by the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology. Because URI-R uses tracks to move on the seabed, insufficient ground strength may hinder its movement. For smooth operation of URI-R on

A Method for Predicting Pile Capacity Using Cone Penetration Test Data [PDF]
The massive construction in poor lands has encouraged engineers to use deep foundations in order to transfer superstructure loads to the subsoil. Since soil excavation, sampling, and laboratory testing as a part of site investigation are relatively ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Cone angle influence on dynamic light cone penetrability and its effect on tip resistance prediction
Dynamic cone penetration test has numerous advantages over commonly adopted static cone penetration test for ground characterisation. However, the major setback of the test is being unable to sorely characterise the ground.

The plastic limit of clays [PDF]
The plastic limit of soils was first described by Atterberg in 1911. The thread-rolling test was standardised at the US Public Roads Bureau in the 1920s and 1930s, and has subsequently become one of the standard tests of soil mechanics.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Deformation parameters of soils determined by the cone penetration test
The article deals with the derivation of correlation relations from the cone penetration test, which are applied as input parameters in the calculations of advanced constitutive soil models.

Experience with light dynamic penetration in a landslide locality [PDF]
Because of vital prevention and redevelopment measures in problem localities affected by slope instability, geotechnical investigations must be carried out. One of the applicable methods is Light Dynamic Penetration (LDP).

Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
