In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

On the origin of Phase Transitions in the absence of Symmetry-Breaking [PDF]
In this paper we investigate the Hamiltonian dynamics of a lattice gauge model in three spatial dimension. Our model Hamiltonian is defined on the basis of a continuum version of a duality transformation of a three dimensional Ising model.

Configuration entropy of fractal landscapes
Hydrologic fields like rainfall and river basin topography require the quantitative description of their spatial arrangements. These arrangements can be effectively characterized by the spatial structure of the 2‐dimensional images obtained through the intersection with horizontal planes at different heights.

Direct measurement of force configurational entropy in jamming [PDF]
Thermal fluctuations are not large enough to lead to state changes in granular materials. However, such materials do achieve reproducible bulk properties, suggesting that they are controlled by an underlying statistical mechanics analogous to thermodynamics. We make this connection concrete by providing a first principles derivation of the multiplicity

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

The Role of Configurational Entropy in Amorphous Systems
Configurational entropy is an important parameter in amorphous systems. It is involved in the thermodynamic considerations, plays an important role in the molecular mobility calculations through its appearance in the Adam-Gibbs equation and provides ...

On the thermodynamics of classical micro-canonical systems
We study the configurational probability distribution of a mono-atomic gas with a finite number of particles N in the micro-canonical ensemble. We give two arguments why the thermodynamic entropy of the configurational subsystem involves Renyi's entropy ...

A universal configurational entropy metric for high-entropy materials
Abstract In recent years, high-entropy materials have become increasingly complex, outgrowing simple solid-solution based calculations of configurational entropy, and with that, the previously established metrics for high-, medium-, and low-entropy.

ATF4‐mediated stress response as a therapeutic vulnerability in chordoma
We screened 5 chordoma cell lines against 100+ inhibitors of epigenetic and metabolic pathways and kinases and identified halofuginone, a tRNA synthetase inhibitor. Mechanistically halofuginone induces an integrated stress response, with eIF2alpha phosphorylation, activation of ATF4 and its target genes CHOP, ASNS, INHBE leading to cell death ...

Scaling of the dynamics of flexible Lennard-Jones chains. II. Effects of harmonic bonds [PDF]
The previous paper [Veldhorst et al., J. Chem. Phys. 141, 054904 (2014)] demonstrated that the isomorph theory explains the scaling properties of a liquid of flexible chains consisting of ten Lennard-Jones particles connected by rigid bonds.
