Water compressibility in confined spaces

1996 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium. Proceedings, 2002
In order to explore the compressibility of water sequestered in droplets surrounded by surfactant molecular films (reverse micelles), we custom-built a high-precision velocimeter. The apparatus comprises two ultrasonic small-sized cells, electronic generators and a computer-controlled digital scope.

Performing chest compressions in a confined space

Resuscitation, 2004
Standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) may be difficult to perform in a confined space. This study set out to evaluate alternative techniques of chest compression, which may be easier to perform in such situations. Nineteen airline employees, trained in basic life support (BLS), were recruited to take part in the study.

Confined Compression of Bone Substitute Granules

Key Engineering Materials, 2005
This study investigated the strength of several bone graft substitute (BGS) granular products under compression in a confined fixture characteristic of packing into a contained surgical bone defect. The compressive strength values for columns of granules made of tricalcium phosphate (TCP, dense), calcium carbonate / hydroxyapatite (CC/HA, porous) and ...

Compression of Nanoslit Confined Polymer Solutions

Macromolecules, 2018
Many systems of biophysical and technological interest consist of multiple interpenetrating chains in a confined volume, i.e., a confined polymer solution. Using nanofluidic approaches developed originally for the study of single chains in confined geometries, we develop an assay to create confined polymer solutions on-chip and then probe the solution ...

Performance of snow in confined compression

Journal of Terramechanics, 1977
Abstract The need to provide for input of mechanical properties of snow for prediction of vehicle mobility on snow requires determination of typical constitutive relationships for snow. The performance of various kinds of snow under confined compression is examined and evaluated in terms of initial snow structure.
