Confinement of Brick Masonry Columns with SRG Jackets

SP-324: Composites with Inorganic Matrix for Repair of Concrete and Masonry Structures, 2018
This paper presents the results of an experimental program carried out to study the behavior of brick masonry columns confined by steel reinforced grout (SRG) comprised of continuous steel fiber cords embedded in a cementitious matrix. Short brick masonry columns with a square cross-section confined by SRG jackets were subjected to a monotonic ...

Masonry columns confined by composite materials: Experimental investigation

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2011
Abstract The present paper deals with the mechanical behaviour of masonry columns confined by using fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. In particular, it presents the key results of a wide experimental program jointly carried out at the Laboratories of the Universities of Salerno and Salento (Italy).

Two Parameters Confinement Model for Clay Brick Masonry

International Journal of Computational Methods, 2019
Modeling of masonry confinement has been usually derived from concrete confinement, which was deeply tested in the last decades. However concrete and masonry have some crucial differences, e.g., ordinary concrete performance can be usually fully defined by the cylindrical compressive strength, while masonry does not.

Confinement of brick masonry columns with CFRP materials

Composites Science and Technology, 2007
For many years confinement has been considered an effective method for strengthening reinforced concrete and masonry elements. This study aims to provide a basic understanding of the behavior of solid brick masonry columns confined by Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP).

Seismic Design of Confined Masonry Walls

SP-162: Mete A Sozen Symposium...A Tribute From His Students, 1996
The objective of this paper is to present models for the design of confined masonry structures based on the available experimental data. In particular, this study deals with in-plane response of masonry walls subjected to lateral forces, with emphasis on aspects of initial stiffness, strength and deformation capacity.

Masonry confinement with SRP composites

2012
The application of Steel fiber Reinforced Polymer (SRP) as a means of increasing the capacity of masonry columns is investigated in this study. The behavior of 23 solid-brick specimens that are externally wrapped by SRP sheets in low volumetric ratios is presented. The specimens are subjected to axial monotonic load until failure occurs.

Seismic performance of confined masonry construction [PDF]

open access: possible, 2014
Although it is a known fact that confined masonry construction has many advantages over unreinforced masonry construction, its application has been very limited in Turkish construction practice. One of the reasons for this issue is that the seismic regulations in Turkey do not explicitly enforce or even encourage the use of confined masonry structural ...

Numerical investigation of tie-column – masonry panel interaction in confined masonry

Masonry structures are widely used in construction of residential buildings throughout the Balkans, but especially in Slovenia, Serbia and Croatia, confined masonry (CM) is typically used because of seismic risk. The reinforced concrete (RC) tie-columns in such construction are crucial for preventing brittle response and increasing the structure's ...
