Mirrorless open cavities enabled by boundary incompatibility between perfect electric conductor and perfect magnetic conductor parallel-plate waveguides [PDF]
The most basic approach to confining electromagnetic waves is to place mirrors along their path, yet achieving confinement without conventional mirrors remains a major challenge.

Confinement and the safety factor profile [PDF]
The conjecture that the safety factor profile, q(r), controls the improvement in tokamak plasmas from poor confinement in the Low- (L-) mode regime to improved confinement in the supershot regime has been tested in two experiments on the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) [Plasma Phys. Controlled Nucl. Fusion Res. 1, 51 (1987)].

Optical imaging of the intrinsic adsorption kinetics in single zeolite nanoparticles [PDF]
The confinement effect is increasingly recognized as a critical factor influencing guest–framework interactions in molecular sieves, yet its impact on adsorption kinetics remains largely unexplored.

Experimental Demonstration of Germanium-on-Silicon Slot Waveguides at Mid-Infrared Wavelength
We first demonstrated a slot waveguide based on a Ge-on-Si (GOS) platform with a 3 μm thickness of the Ge in the mid-infrared wavelength range at 4.2 μm.

Perception of musculoskeletal pain in the state of confinement: associated factors [PDF]
Objective: to describe the perception of musculoskeletal pain in the population and how the state of confinement (adopted as a measure to control contagion by COVID-19) has interfered with it, as well as identifying the sociodemographic, occupational, physical, and psychosocial factors involved.

Designing Mid-Infrared Gold-Based Plasmonic Slot Waveguides for CO2-Sensing Applications
Plasmonic slot waveguides have attracted much attention due to the possibility of high light confinement, although they suffer from relatively high propagation loss originating from the presence of a metal.

Confinement factors and gain in optical amplifiers [PDF]
A new identity is derived which relates the gain and the field distribution (or confinement factor) in a dielectric waveguide with complex refractive indices. This identity is valid for any guided mode of waveguides with an arbitrary cross section. It provides a new check of the accuracy of mode solvers.

Laser Processing For Nanoscale Size Quantum Wires of AlGaAs/GaAs [PDF]
In this work we investigate and calculate theoretically the variation in a number of optoelectronic properties of AlGaAs/GaAs quantum wire laser, with emphasis on the effect of wire radius on the confinement factor, density of states and gain factor have
