Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Spectral characteristics of laser-induced plasma under the combination of Au-nanoparticles and cavity confinement

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
To enhance the emission spectrum intensity of laser-induced plasma, a method of combining cavity-enhanced laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) with nanoparticles-enhanced LIBS (NELIBS) was proposed.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Tailoring radiative and nonradiative losses of chiral quasi-bound states in the continuum in plasmonic nanohole arrays

open access: yesJPhys Photonics
Plasmonic systems are typically characterized by a trade-off between sub-wavelength field confinement and dissipative losses that limit the Q -factor of optical resonances.

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Definition of an EU-DEMO design point robust to epistemic plasma physics uncertainties

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
A novel approach for explicitly and robustly accounting for epistemic uncertainties in plasma confinement in the 0D design of tokamaks is presented, in which the plasma safety factor at the 95th percentile flux surface, q _95 , is used to apply a design ...

High quality-factor diamond-confined open microcavity

open access: yes, 2021
With a highly coherent, optically addressable electron spin, the nitrogen vacancy (NV) centre in diamond is a promising candidate for a node in a quantum network. However, the NV centre is a poor source of coherent single photons owing to a long radiative lifetime, a small branching ratio into the zero-phonon line (ZPL) and a poor extraction efficiency

Weakening the nuclear envelope: Lamin B receptor in melanoma metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
LBR‐driven nuclear fragility supports melanoma invasion. A: Melanocyte presents low LBR (Lamin B Receptor) levels, maintaining nuclear integrity and lamina‐chromatin tethering. B: During malignant progression, upregulation of LBR clusters at the INM (Inner Nuclear Membrane) during confined migration causes local lamina weakening and cholesterol ...
