Comparison of confinement and loss of plasmonic waveguides [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Conference 2012, 2012
We have compared a number of well known plasmonic guides in terms of power confinement, normalized power density, and propagation loss. We have identified the relative advantages and limitations of these guides.

Numerical Investigation of Confinement Losses in Semiconductor-core Optical Fibers [PDF]

open access: yes2021 IEEE Research and Applications of Photonics in Defense Conference (RAPID), 2021
The sources of the confinement losses in semiconductor-core optical fibers are numerically investigated by introducing fabrication-inspired imperfections such as micro-cracks and core ellipticity. The imperfections increase the losses up to 200 dB/m at the targeted spectrum that is comparable to experimental findings.

Broadband Plasmonic Polarization Filter Based on Photonic Crystal Fiber with Dual-Ring Gold Layer

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
Polarization filter is a very important optical device with extinction characteristics. Due to the design flexibility of photonic crystal fibers and the high excitation losses of the gold layer, the polarization filter based on the photonic crystal fiber

High Sensitivity and Wide Range Refractive Index Sensor Based on Surface Plasmon Resonance Photonic Crystal Fiber

open access: yesSensors, 2023
In order to detect the refractive index (RI) of high refractive index materials such as trichlorobenzene and aniline in the near-infrared and mid-infrared spectra and expand the detection range of the refractive index, a surface plasmon resonance (SPR ...

Segmented waveguides in thin silicon-on-insulator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We have developed new silicon-on-insulator waveguide designs for simultaneously achieving both low-loss optical confinement and electrical contacts, and we present a design methodology based on calculating the Bloch modes of such segmented waveguides ...

Designing Dispersion Flattened Photonic Crystal Fiber For Wideband Applications

open access: yesJISR on Computing, 2019
In this paper, we proposed a dispersion flattened photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for having very low dispersion for wide bandwidth as well as low confinement loss.

Modeling of index-guiding photonic crystal fiber with low-chromatic dispersion and low-nonlinearity effect [PDF]

open access: yesمجله مدل سازی در مهندسی, 2017
The low-dispersion and low-confinement loss waveguides are used in optical communication systems. The photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) can be used as waveguide. The several advantages of photonic crystal fibers cause to use these waveguides compared to the

Ultra low bending loss equiangular spiral photonic crystal fibers in the terahertz regime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An Equiangular Spiral Photonic Crystal Fiber (ES-PCF) design in Topas® for use in the Terahertz regime is presented. The design shows ultra low bending loss and very low confinement loss compared to conventional Hexagonal PCF (H-PCF).
