Fast ion JET diagnostics: confinement and losses [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
A study of magnetically confined fast ions in tokamaks plays an important role in burning plasma research. To reach ignition and steady burning of a reactor plasma an adequate confinement of energetic ions produced by NBI heating, accelerated with ICRF and born in fusion reactions is essential to provide efficient heating of the bulk plasma.

Sensitivity of confinement losses in optical fibers to modeling approach

open access: yesOptics Express, 2023
A prime objective of modeling optical fibers is capturing mode confinement losses correctly. This paper demonstrates that specific modeling choices, especially regarding the outer fiber cladding regions and the placement of the computational boundary, have significant impacts on the calculated mode losses.

Confinement losses in microstructured optical fibers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2001
We describe a multipole formulation that can be used for high-accuracy calculations of the full complex propagation constant of a microstructured optical fiber with a finite number of holes. We show how the imaginary part of the microstructure, which describes confinement losses not associated with absorption, varies with hole size, the number of rings

Confinement loss of anti-resonant capillaries with curved boundaries

open access: yesOptics Express, 2021
A systematic analysis of the dependence of the confinement loss of an anti-resonant capillary on the curvature of the core surround is presented. The core boundary is described by circular arcs and the construction allows for a wide range of core shapes to be considered.

Comparison of confinement and loss of plasmonic waveguides [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Conference 2012, 2012
We have compared a number of well known plasmonic guides in terms of power confinement, normalized power density, and propagation loss. We have identified the relative advantages and limitations of these guides.

Numerical Investigation of Confinement Losses in Semiconductor-core Optical Fibers [PDF]

open access: yes2021 IEEE Research and Applications of Photonics in Defense Conference (RAPID), 2021
The sources of the confinement losses in semiconductor-core optical fibers are numerically investigated by introducing fabrication-inspired imperfections such as micro-cracks and core ellipticity. The imperfections increase the losses up to 200 dB/m at the targeted spectrum that is comparable to experimental findings.

Optimization of optical properties of Ge20Sb5Se75-based photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học, 2022
In this paper, we present a new design of solid-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF), a Ge20Sb5Se75 substrate with a hexagonal lattice structure. The fiber characteristics are studied in the long-wavelength range (from 1.5 µm to 7.0 µm).

Numerical study on optical properties of non-circular metamaterial optical fiber

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
A non-circular core fiber with a metamaterial cladding using gold is proposed. The mode confinement properties of the disclosed fiber are investigated under various metallic (gold) and dielectric (Al2O3) thickness for different wavelengths and different ...

A Weakly-Coupled Few-Mode Hybrid Clad Photonic Crystal Fiber With Ultra-Flattened Dispersion and Low Confinement Loss

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2022
We propose a weakly-coupled ultra-flattened chromatic dispersion few-mode photonic crystal fiber (FM-PCF) supporting 10 vector modes (HE11a, HE11b, TM01, HE21a, HE21b, TE01, HE31a, HE31b, EH11a, EH11b) which works over a large range of wavelength across ...
