Spatiotemporal distributions and mixing dynamics of characteristic contaminants at a large asymmetric confluence in northern China

, 2020
Previous studies of confluences have mainly concentrated on their hydrodynamic characteristics and morphological dynamics. However, the increasing environmental pollution in rivers has resulted in abrupt variations in water quality at confluences, thus ...

On the mixing of rivers with a difference in density: The case of the Negro/Solimões confluence, Brazil

Journal of Hydrology, 2019
Confluences are common components of all riverine systems, and characterized by converging streamlines and potential mixing of separate flows. The fluid dynamics of confluences possess a highly complex structure with several common types of flow features

Confluence

Psychological Perspectives
This chapter delves into the poignant encounter between the author and Danielle, a waitress at the Circle E Diner in Hancock, who endured significant health challenges, including a connective tissue disease and two strokes. The author, who also experienced a stroke, feels an immediate connection with Danielle as she shares her story good-naturedly ...

Latin American Perspectives, 2014
Ever since the Cuban Revolution challenged the Monroe Doctrine by asserting a right to independence and mutuality between the United States and Cuba, no effort has been spared to gain control of the island. The National Endowment for Democracy, which has long pursued regime change in Cuba in the guise of democracy promotion, has recently “discovered ...

Obtuse-angle vs. confluent sharp meander bends: insights from the Paraguay-Cuiabá confluence in the tropical Pantanal wetlands, Brazil

, 2020
River confluences are notable features in the drainage system with complex hydrodynamics, bed morphology, sediment transport, and mixing processes. Junction planform plays a pivotal role in the confluence hydrodynamics.

CSI – A Confluence Tool

2011
This paper describes a new confluence tool for term rewrite systems. Due to its modular design, the few techniques implemented so far can be combined flexibly. Methods developed for termination analysis are adapted to prove and disprove confluence. Preliminary experimental results show the potential of our tool.

Three-dimensional flow structure, morphodynamics, suspended sediment, and thermal mixing at an asymmetrical river confluence of a straight tributary and curving main channel

Geomorphology, 2018
Past field studies of confluence dynamics have focused mainly on experimental or small stream confluences and confluences of large rivers. Few studies have explored fluvial processes and forms at confluences of medium-size rivers, especially those where ...

Modularity of Confluence

2008
We present a novel proof of Toyama's famous modularity of confluence result for term rewriting systems. Apart from being short and intuitive, the proof is modular itself in that it factors through the decreasing diagrams technique for abstract rewriting systems, is constructive in that it gives a construction for the converging rewrite sequences given ...

Influences of riverbed morphology on patterns and magnitudes of hyporheic water exchange within a natural river confluence

Journal of Hydrology, 2019
River confluences are pivotal junctions that have vital influences on hydraulic characteristics and sediment particle distributions as well as on hyporheic water exchange.

A 3D analysis of spatial habitat metrics about the confluence of Negro and Solimões rivers, Brazil

Ecohydrology, 2019
Confluences are integral features in rivers characterized by complex 3D changes in flow hydrodynamics and bed morphology and provide important ecological functions.
