FEA simulation of conformal cooling within injection moulds

International Journal of Manufacturing Research, 2007
Manufacturers are constantly striving to reduce the costs associated with design and manufacture. The plastics industry and in particular the injection moulding sector have focused their efforts on improving efficiencies within the moulding parameters and material selection process.

Plastic injection molded door handle cooling time reduction investigation using conformal cooling channels

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020
Abstract Cycle time is a significant parameter in injection molding process as it affects the rate of production and governs the quality of part produced. The cycle time can be reduced by minimizing the cooling time. Cooling time contributes to the majority of the cycle time and it can be effectively reduced by proper heat dissipation.

Conformal Cooling of Aluminium Flat Fins Using a 3D Printed Water-Cooled Mould

2021
Additive manufacturing (AM) of high pressure die casting (HPDC) tools for casting complex aluminium parts provides more versatility in achieving conformal cooling. Nevertheless, the high thermal fatigue of the tools near the casting cavity restricts the use of small coolant pipe diameters or the location of the pipes closer to the cast cavity ...

Spiral and conformal cooling in plastic injection molding

Computer-Aided Design, 2015
Designing cooling channels for the thermoplastic injection process is a very important step in mold design. A conformal cooling channel can significantly improve the efficiency and the quality of production in plastic injection molding. This paper introduces an approach to generate spiral channels for conformal cooling. The cooling channels designed by

Modeling of cooling times for molds with conformal cooling channels and heat sinks

ICALEO 2000: Proceedings of the Laser Applications in the Automotive Industry Conference, 2000
In injection molding and die casting, cycle time of the process is dominated by the heat transfer during the solidification and cooling of the part. Molds with conformal cooling and heat sinks with high thermal conductivity can reduce the cycle time considerably.

Jet-Cooled 2-Aminopyridine Dimer: Conformers and Infrared Vibrational Spectra

The Journal of Physical Chemistry A, 2009
The 2-aminopyridine dimer, (2AP)(2), is linked by two N-H...N hydrogen bonds, providing a model for the Watson-Crick configurations of the adenine or cytosine self-dimers. Structure optimization of (2AP)(2) at the MP2 level with the aug-cc-pVQZ basis set establishes the existence of two nearly degenerate conformers with C(i) and C(2) symmetry.

Development of green conformal cooling channels for rapid tooling

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2020
The production cost is related to productivity greatly in the mass production. To enhance productivity, the rapid tooling (RT) with conformal cooling channel (CCC) is widely used for small-volume production in the current industry. In this study, green CCC for RT was developed. This study proposes four methods to move polyvinyl butyral (PVB) CCC.

Manufacturing optimization of laminated tooling with conformal cooling channels

Rapid Prototyping Journal, 2011
PurposeThis paper proposes sheet thickness determination in manufacturing of laminated dies as an optimization problem. The aim of this optimization procedure is finding the best set of thicknesses which minimizes the volume deviation between actual computer‐aided design (CAD) model and assembled slices.Design/methodology/approachThis works uses a ...

Visibility-based conformal cooling channel generation for rapid tooling

Computer-Aided Design, 2011
In plastic injection moulding process, cooling channel design is an essential factor that affects the quality of the moulded parts and the productivity of the process. Non-uniform cooling or long cooling cycle time would result if a poorly designed cooling channel is adopted. Due to limitations of traditional machining processes, the cooling channel is

Design of Conformal Cooling/Heating Channels for Layered Tooling

2008 International Conference on Smart Manufacturing Application, 2008
One of the advantages of Rapid tooling (RT) methods is flexibility in building conformal cooling/heating channels within a mold for enhanced thermal control, but tool size is currently limited. But Profiled Edge Laminae (PEL) method, which is a thick-layer laminated RT method intended for large-scale tooling applications, could allow more challengeable
