Modeling of cooling times for molds with conformal cooling channels and heat sinks

ICALEO 2000: Proceedings of the Laser Applications in the Automotive Industry Conference, 2000
In injection molding and die casting, cycle time of the process is dominated by the heat transfer during the solidification and cooling of the part. Molds with conformal cooling and heat sinks with high thermal conductivity can reduce the cycle time considerably.

Design of Conformal Cooling/Heating Channels for Layered Tooling

2008 International Conference on Smart Manufacturing Application, 2008
One of the advantages of Rapid tooling (RT) methods is flexibility in building conformal cooling/heating channels within a mold for enhanced thermal control, but tool size is currently limited. But Profiled Edge Laminae (PEL) method, which is a thick-layer laminated RT method intended for large-scale tooling applications, could allow more challengeable

The design of conformal cooling channels in injection molding tooling

Polymer Engineering & Science, 2001
AbstractSolid Freeform Fabrication technologies have demonstrated the potential to produce tooling with cooling channels, which are conformal to the molding cavity. 3D Printed tools with conformal cooling channels have demonstrated simultaneous improvements in production rate and part quality as compared with conventional production tools.

Analysis and Manufacturing of Conformal Cooling Channels in Injection Mold

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
In view of the cooling difficulty in complex injection mold, the difference between conventional cooling channels and Conformal Cooling Channels (CCC) is researched. CCC is superior to conventional cooling channels on cooling effect according to the simulation analysis of plastic flow based on Autodesk Moldflow Insight software.

Improving Warpage with Milled Groove Square Shape Conformal Cooling Channels

Key Engineering Materials, 2016
Warpage is a common issue in an injection moulding process due to non-uniform temperature variation causing differential shrinkage on the moulded parts. In designing moulds for injection molding process, it is very difficult to achieve efficient cooling with uniform thermal distribution.

Transient Analysis of an Injection Mould with Conformal Cooling Channels

2019
Injection moulding is a manufacturing process to create plastic parts and it consists of four major processes injection, packing, cooling and ejection. Cooling process takes almost half of the whole cycle time in injection moulding. Injection moulds were cooled by creating straight drilled channel in mould but that channel does not provide uniform and ...

Development of hot embossing stamps with conformal cooling channels for microreplication

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2016
Hot embossing stamp fabricated from aluminum-filled epoxy resin can be employed for short-run productions. However, the cooling time is much longer compared to metallic stamps due to poorer thermal conductivity. Therefore, developing a hot embossing stamp with high cooling efficiency is an important issue. In this study, three different cooling-channel

Comparison of Straight Line to Conformal Cooling Channel in Injection Molding

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2017
Abstract Conformal Cooling Channel (CCC) is a new method for cooling in Injection Molding, which allows full freedom to designers. Which comes with the improvement of cooling systems over traditional such as straight drilled cooling channel(SDCC). The current papers deals with some of common problems in Traditional cooling systems such as warpage ...

Milled Groove Square Shape Conformal Cooling Channels in Injection Molding Process

Materials and Manufacturing Processes, 2013
In designing molds for injection molding process, it is very difficult to achieve efficient cooling with uniform thermal distribution. To overcome these issues, the uses of conformal cooling channels with the uniform distance between the center of the cooling channels and the mold surfaces have more advantages, offering a better thermal distribution ...
