Stratus Optical Coherence Tomography for Evaluating Optic Disc Pits Associated with Maculopathy Before and After Vitrectomy: Two Case Reports

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2006
Optic disc pit (ODP) can be either congenital or acquired. Congenital ODP is typically unilateral, and the visual acuity and visual field are normal unless associated with macular serous detachment, which occurs in about 25-75% of cases.

Bone changes in congenital syphilis

open access: yesKazan medical journal, 1926
Having examined 240 children with congenital syphilis with x-rays, M. M. Reitz could find specific bone diseases in 80% of them. In this case in infants Wegener's osteochondritis luetica, also periostitis and osteosclerosis, rarely hummosis processes in the periosteum and spongy substance were observed most often.

MIS12 Is Required for Kinetochore‐Microtubule Attachment in Oocyte Meiosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A model depicting the role of MIS12 in K‐MT attachment during oocyte meiosis. The presence of MIS12 stabilizes bipolar K‐MT attachments by maintaining the function of NDC80 and its interaction with TUBB. This, in turn, promotes KNL1 assembly and subsequent SAC protein recruitment to kinetochores.

Thalamocortical Connectivity and Microstructural Changes in Congenital and Late Blindness

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2017
There is ample evidence that the occipital cortex of congenitally blind individuals processes nonvisual information. It remains a debate whether the cross-modal activation of the occipital cortex is mediated through the modulation of preexisting ...

Integrative Omics Analysis Reveals the Regulation of Hypoxia Tolerance in Large Yellow Croaker (Larimichthys crocea) via the Lipoic Acid Synthase (lias) Gene

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lipoic acid synthase (lias) can regulate α‐KG levels through lipoylation, thereby negatively regulating HIF‐1α protein levels via PHD under hypoixa. The Hap2 allele of lias exhibits lower expression levels than Hap1, leading to the accumulation of more HIF‐1α protein and thereby enhancing hypoxia tolerance. ABSTRACT Hypoxia stress seriously affects the

Molecular and Cellular Hallmarks of Age‐Related Vestibular Hair Cell Degeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study utilizes single‐cell RNA‐seq transcriptomes, advanced imaging, and electrophysiology to examine universal and cell‐type‐specific aging signatures of vestibular hair cells. The study shows that impaired hair bundle function is a key driver of age‐related vestibular dysfunction.

The relationship between ADAMTS13 genotype and phenotype in congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and characterisation of ADAMTS13 mutants

open access: yes, 2015
Congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a thrombotic microangiopathy, usually involving ADAMTS13 gene defects. ADAMTS13 processes the multimeric plasma glycoprotein Von Willebrand factor making it less reactive to platelets.

Harnessing Large‐Scale Multi‐Omics Data for Risk Prediction and Deep Phenotyping of Valvular Heart Diseases in the General Population

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Large‐scale UK Biobank analyses identify clinical and proteomic signatures for early prediction of valvular heart disease and its subtypes. Proteins add predictive value for VHD, AVS, and MVR, with outcome‐specific compact panels showing translational potential. Multi‐layer evidence highlights matrix remodeling, protease regulation, immune inflammation,
