The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery, 1959This study of congenital muscular torticollis in infancy is continuing. The data obtained so far may be summarized as follows:1. The tumor in the sternocleidomastoid muscle was discovered at an average age of 3.5 weeks and disappeared at an average age of three and one-half months.

2019Treatment of congenital muscular torticollis (spasticus) is indicated in cases of neck pain and for cosmetic reasons. Lengthening of the sternocleidomastoid muscle can be achieved by Z-plasty or suture or both muscle bellies. Accessory and greater auricular nerves are at risk during cranial dissection (preparation).
