Iron and Other Metal Ions in Human Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
Iron, copper, zinc, and calcium orchestrate cellular function through distinct yet cooperative mechanisms: redox‐active iron and copper cycle between oxidation states to act as Fenton catalysts and electron carriers in oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS); redox‐inert zinc serves as a structural component of zinc‐finger proteins and a catalytic cofactor ...

Novel Compound Heterozygous RECQL4 Pathogenic Variants and Associated Phenotypes in a Chinese Patient With Rothmund‐Thomson Syndrome: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesMolecular Genetics &Genomic Medicine, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
A Chinese patient with Rothmund‐Thomson syndrome type 2 carried compound heterozygous RECQL4 variants, including a novel frameshift variant c.2053del (p.Asp685Thrfs*5). The patient also presented with gynecomastia and low testosterone, a previously unreported endocrine phenotype.

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, Volume 7, Issue 5, October 2026.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

Three‐Dimensional Assessment of Upper Airway Morphology and Sleep‐Disordered Breathing Risk in Unilateral Craniofacial Microsomia: A Pilot Study

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, Volume 29, Issue 5, Page 926-936, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Unilateral craniofacial microsomia (UCM) presents varying unilateral deficiencies of the temporomandibular joint, mandibular ramus, masticatory muscles, and adjacent soft tissues and ear. Reduced mandibular and maxillary dimensions may decrease upper airway volume and may increase the risk of sleep‐disordered breathing (SDB).

Machine Learning‐Based Model for Predicting Short‐ and Long‐Term Growth in Untreated Class III Malocclusion

open access: yesOrthodontics &Craniofacial Research, Volume 29, Issue 5, Page 954-962, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To develop a Machine Learning‐based model to predict growth of Caucasian subjects with untreated Class III malocclusion in the short‐ and long‐term. Materials and Methods A longitudinal sample of 144 Caucasian subjects with untreated Class III malocclusion was selected (80% training data; 20% test data).
