A comunidade Novo Nilo (04º 24’ 13” S e 42º 53' 22’’ W) situa-se à margem direita do rio Parnaíba a uma distância de 80 km da capital do estado, Teresina. O estudo etnobotânico foi realizado objetivando conhecer as inter-relações dos moradores e a vegetação existente, apontando as espécies úteis e tradicionalmente utilizadas pela comunidade.
