Light is an important signal for fungi in the environment and induces many genes with roles in stress and virulence responses. Conidia of the entomopathogenic fungi Aschersonia aleyrodis, Beauveria bassiana, Cordyceps fumosorosea, Lecanicillium aphanocladii, Metarhizium anisopliae, Metarhizium brunneum, Metarhizium robertsii, Simplicillium lanosoniveum,

Sigmoid conidial shape in aquatic fungi
Transactions of the British Mycological Society, 1984Observations on the orientation of sigmoid conidia of aquatic fungi during flow and on coming to rest have been made in flat capillary tubes. Conidia are arrested by attachment at one end, and then swing round so that they are aligned parallel to the direction of the current. After a short period of attachment ‘appressoria’ and germ tubes develop where

Nutritional requirements of keratinophilic fungi and dermatophytes for conidial germination
Mycopathologia, 1982Germination of spores of Chrysosporium crassitunicatum, Nannizzia fulva (+), Nannizzia fulva (-) and Trichophyton equinum was studied in the presence of various carbon and nitrogen sources. Effect of different temperatures on spore germination was also determined.

Conidial vigor vs. viability as predictors of virulence of entomopathogenic fungi
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2015We tested the hypothesis that debilitated conidia exhibiting slow-germination (requiring>16h to germinate) are less virulent than vigorous conidia exhibiting fast germination (requiring⩽16h to germinate). Preparations of Beauveria bassiana s.l. strain CG 1027 with variable ratios of vigorous to debilitated conidia were assayed against third-instar ...

Stress Induced Microcycle Conidiation in Fungi
Journal of Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology ResearchMicrocycle conidiation (MC) is a kind of survival mechanism in fungi reproducing asexually to produce a lot of spores in stress to withstand themselves unfavorably. In MC, new conidia are often formed on conidiophores from the parent conidia with the arrest of a mycelial phase. The conidia thus produced are synchronous in nature.

A new type of conidial septal pore in fungi
2016A new type of conidial septal pore is illustrated for the first time with transmission electron microscopy. Under the light microscope, conidia of all species of Canalisporium, and some species of Acrodictys and Cancellidium possess thick eusepta with dark brown, barrel-shaped thickenings embedded in the septa surrounding the septal pores.
