Groups with few conjugacy classes

Proceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society, 2011
AbstractLet G be a finite group, let p be a prime divisor of the order of G and let k(G) be the number of conjugacy classes of G. By disregarding at most finitely many non-solvable p-solvable groups G, we have $k(G)\geq2\smash{\sqrt{p-1}}$ with equality if and only if if $\smash{\sqrt{p-1}}$ is an integer, $G=C_{p}\rtimes\smash{C_{\sqrt{p-1}}}$ and CG ...

Conjugacy Classes and Class Number

Integers, 2009
AbstractIt is shown that the conjugacy classes of integral matrices with a given irreducible characteristic polynomial is in bijection with the class group of a corresponding order in an algebraic number field.

Conjugacy Classes of Fuzzy Implications

1999
We discuss the conjugacy problem in the family of fuzzy implications. Particularly we examine a compatibility of conjugacy classes with induced order and induced convergence in the family of fuzzy implications. Conjugacy classes can be indexed by elements of adequate groups.

On the Computation of Conjugacy Classes of Chevalley Groups

Applicable Algebra in Engineering, Communication and Computing, 1996
Let \(G\) be a connected reductive algebraic group defined over a Galois field \(F_q\) with corresponding Frobenius endomorphism \(F\) and a finite group \(G^F\) of \(F\)-fixed points. Two semisimple conjugacy classes \([s_1]\) and \([s_2]\) of \(G^F\) are called of the same genus if the centralizers \(C_G(s_1)\) and \(C_G(s_2)\) are conjugate under ...

ON THE THOMPSON'S CONJECTURE ON CONJUGACY CLASSES SIZES

International Journal of Algebra and Computation, 2013
In this paper, we prove a conjecture of Thompson for an infinite class of simple groups of Lie type. In fact, we show that every finite group G with the property Φ(G) ∩ Z(G) = 1 and N(G) = N(Dn(q)) is isomorphic to Z(G) × Dn(q), where n ≥ 5 and n ≠ 8. Note that N(G), Φ(G) and Z(G) are the set of lengths of conjugacy classes of G, Frattini subgroup of ...

Phases and conjugacy classes

1980
The preceding section is a synopsis of the results obtained by a conjugacy class analysis of the SGA for an anisotropic fermi superfluid. I apologize for the jargon used in describing the various experimentally observed states; however, there is enough correspondence between subalgebras and phases to suggest that the relationship is not merely ...

BOUNDED CONJUGACY CLASSES AND CONJUGACY CLASSES SUPPORTING INVARIANT MEASURES AND AUTOMORPHISMS

Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society
Abstract We consider conjugacy classes in a locally compact group G that support finite G -invariant measures. If G is a property (M) extension of an abelian group, in particular, if
