Vaccination strategies and transmission of COVID-19: evidence across advanced countries [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Given limited supply of approved vaccines and constrained medical resources, design of a vaccination strategy to control a pandemic is an economic problem. We use time-series and panel methods with real-world country-level data to estimate effects on COVID-19 cases and deaths of two key elements of mass vaccination - time between doses and vaccine type.

Synthetic Strategy for mRNA Encapsulation and Gene Delivery with Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes the ZIF‐8 for the encapsulation and intracellular delivery of nucleic acids, specifically mRNA, for applications in gene delivery. Integrating PEI addresses the issue of mRNA leakage from ZIF‐8, resulting in the delivery and expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in vitro and firefly luciferase in vivo.

Epidemiology and Control of Meningococcal Disease in Canada: A Long, Complex, and Unfinished Story

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2019
The epidemiology of meningococcal disease in Canada has been punctuated by outbreaks caused by serogroup A strains in the 1940s, virulent serogroup C clones from 1985 to 2001, a serogroup B clone in Quebec from 2003 to 2014, and more recently a W clone ...

Dynamic Vaccination Game in a Heterogeneous Mixing Population [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Opposition to vaccination has long been a non-negligible public health phenomenon resulted from people's varied perceptions toward vaccination (e.g., vaccine-phobia). This paper investigates the voluntary vaccination behavior of a heterogeneous population during an epidemic outbreak, where each individual makes its own vaccination decision to minimize ...

A Multilingual Dataset of COVID-19 Vaccination Attitudes on Twitter [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Vaccine hesitancy is considered as one main cause of the stagnant uptake ratio of COVID-19 vaccines in Europe and the US where vaccines are sufficiently supplied. Fast and accurate grasp of public attitudes toward vaccination is critical to address vaccine hesitancy, and social media platforms have proved to be an effective source of public opinions ...

Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccines and Otitis Media [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Otolaryngology, 2012
In a recent review published in International Journal of Otolaryngology, Fletcher and Fritzell provide a comprehensive and useful summary of the clinical trials assessing efficacy of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) against otitis media (OM) [1]. Although the Results section of the review is limited to clinical trial data, the Discussion section ...

Precision Photothermal Therapy at Mild Temperature: NIR‐II Imaging‐Guided, H2O2‐Responsive Stealth Nanobomb

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The new generation nanobomb, termed the stealth nanobomb, is fabricated through self‐assembly using a polymeric carbon monoxide carrier (PLGA(CO)), small molecule near‐infrared‐active agents (2TT‐OC46B), and phospholipid polyethylene glycol (DSPE‐mPEG2000). The stealth nanobomb can circulate in the bloodstream and specifically target pancreatic cancer,

Dramatic decline of serogrup C meningococcal disease incidence in Catalonia (Spain) 24 months after a mass vaccination programme of children and young people [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
STUDY OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a mass vaccination programme carried out in Catalonia (Spain) in the last quarter of 1997 in response to an upsurge of serogroup C meningococcal disease (SCMD).

TLR Agonist Nano Immune Therapy Clears Peritoneal and Systemic Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
Intraperitoneal administration of immunogenic Toll‐like receptor agonist‐modified mesoporous silica nanoparticles leads to rapid internalization by ascites myeloid cells with trafficking to fat‐associated lymphoid clusters. Activation of myeloid cells counters suppressive immune mechanisms associated with peritoneal metastasis, leading to regional and ...
