Mathematics Concepts Using STEM Connections

Teaching Children Mathematics, 2018
Introduce two topics in math, volume and triangle types, by using connections to STEM. Contributors to the iSTEM (Integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) department share ideas and activities that stimulate student interest in the integrated fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in K–grade 6 ...

Mathematics and dyslexia?an overlooked connection

Dyslexia, 2000
This paper describes various kinds of learning disability. It is suggested that the connection between mathematical difficulties and dyslexia has been largely overlooked by educators. Students' failure to understand how the number system works and the resultant failure to appreciate place values account for many of the mathematical difficulties ...

Mathematics + Social Studies = Learning Connections

The Arithmetic Teacher, 1988
All too often the school day of a six-year-old is fractured into thirty-minute segments, of compartmentalized learning. When each subject is dealt with in isolation, children are often robbed of the opportunity to make connections from one part of the curriculum to another.

Connection Between Mathematical Ideas

2012
There is lack of attention to the connection between geometrical concepts and fundamental mathematical ideas. Connections, as one of the five Process Standards stipulated by the National Council of Teachers in Mathematics (NCTM, 2000), emphasize students’ ability to understand the connections among mathematical ideas.

An Actualization Way of Mathematical Internal Connection in Mathematics Curriculum: Focused on Horizontal Connection of Mathematical Concepts

The Korean Society of Educational Studies in Mathematics - Journal of Educational Research in Mathematics
This study analyzes the New York State curriculum to identify reflection patterns of horizontal connections of mathematical concepts. We divided horizontal connection into connection within domain(WD) and connection between domains(BD) and analyzed the number and patterns of reflections by grade and type.
