The “Mozart Effect” and the Mathematical Connection

Journal of College Reading and Learning, 2012
Educators are always looking for ways to enhance the performance of students on outcome assessments. There is a growing body of research showing the benefits of music on educational performance. The purpose of this study was to determine if a “Mozart Effect” improves student performance on outcome assessments in mathematics.

Making Mathematics—The Coffee Connection [PDF]

open access: possibleCollege Teaching, 1999
The focus of many research efforts today is the classroom presentation. Should it be a lecture, discussion, multimedia, or some combination of them? This essay takes a look at some unorthodox methods that could be used outside the classroom to help students become scholars.

The mysterious connection between mathematics and physics

Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology, 2015
The essay is in the form of a dialogue between the two authors. We take John Wheeler's idea of "It from Bit" as an essential clue and we rework the structure of the bit not to the qubit, but to a logical particle that is its own anti-particle, a logical Marjorana particle.

Mathematics and games: mysterious connections

2012
There are so many connections between games and maths that it is no wonder that many mathematicians play chess or Go or Bridge, or that so many abstract game players are into mathematics. The presence of rules or underlying assumptions, the fact that expert chess players can play games in their heads, just as most people can do at least some ...

Approximate Connectivity and Mathematical Morphology

2005
As known from the works of Serra, Ronse, and Haralick and Shapiro, the connectivity relations are found to be useful in filtering binary images. But it can be used also to find roadmaps in robot motion planning, i.e. to build discrete networks of simple paths connecting points in the robot’s configuration space capturing the connectivity of this space.
