Fibromyalgia is associated with decreased connectivity between pain- and sensorimotor brain areas

open access: yes, 2014
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a syndrome characterized by chronic pain without known peripheral causes. Previously, we have reported dysfunctional pain inhibitory mechanisms for FM patients during pain administration.

Electrochemical Evaluation of Compressed Selective Laser Melted AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg Alloys in Chloride Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The corrosion performance of AlSi7Mg and AlSi10Mg alloys produced through selective laser melting (SLM) was examined under compressive stress in a chloride environment. Electrochemical analyses, including open‐circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarization (CPP), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), were complemented by scanning ...

Resilience rising: Redefining livelihood systems in disaster-prone rural communities

open access: yesProgress in Disaster Science
This study emphasizes the need for a critical review of existing literature to identify the enablers and barriers to social modeling. Rather than solely focusing on vulnerability, it seeks to deconstruct and redefine resilience, particularly in the ...

NFDI MatWerk Ontology (MWO): A BFO‐Compliant Ontology for Research Data Management in Materials Science and Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the NFDI‐MatWerk Ontology (MWO), a Basic Formal Ontology‐based framework for interoperable research data management in materials science and engineering (MSE). Covering consortium structures, research data management resources, services, and instruments, MWO enables semantic integration, Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and ...

Measuring woodland connectivity for wood cricket (Nemobius sylvestris) on the Isle of Wight, UK

open access: yes, 2009
Spatial modelling approaches are increasingly used to design and direct management and conservation plans at the landscape scale. One of the main developments is buffer-radius approaches that use information on the dispersal ability of species to create ...

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.

Climate change, hurricanes and marine connectivity

open access: yes, 2023
Climate change poses an existential threat to marine ecosystems. A warmer and more acidic ocean increases larval mortality, alters the competence acquisition dynamics, changes larval vertical swimming behavior and increases the intensity of hurricanes ...

Evaluating Energy Absorption Performance of Filled Lattice Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Maximum stress must be considered to robustly evaluate energy absorber designs. This approach was applied to compare all types of absorbers in a single Ashby diagram and determine the utility of filling lattice voids with a second material. High‐performance fillers can improve the performance of lattices that are limited by buckling or catastrophic ...
