Research Review: What we have learned about the endocannabinoid system in developmental psychopathology

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, EarlyView.
Background The endocannabinoid (eCB) system, the primary target of cannabis, has gained significant attention as a potential novel therapeutic approach for treating a range of psychiatric disorders characterized by dysregulation of stress, emotion, and social behavior.

Transforming descending input into motor output: An analysis of the Drosophila Male Adult Nerve Cord connectome

open access: yesbioRxiv
In most animals, a relatively small number of descending neurons (DNs) connect higher brain centers in the animal’s head to circuits and motor neurons (MNs) in the nerve cord of the animal’s body that effect movement of the limbs. To understand how brain

Maternal high fat and high sugar diet impacts on key DNA methylation enzymes in offspring brain in a sex‐specific manner

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, EarlyView.
Abstract Maternal obesity associates with an increased risk of offspring neurodevelopmental disorders. Although the underlying mechanism(s) remain unclear, evidence suggests a role for altered DNA methylation. We utilized a murine model of diet‐induced obesity to investigate the impact of maternal obesity on the offspring brain transcriptome and DNA ...

Mapping the rest of the human connectome: Atlasing the spinal cord and peripheral nervous system

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2021
The emergence of diffusion, structural, and functional neuroimaging methods has enabled major multi-site efforts to map the human connectome, which has heretofore been defined as containing all neural connections in the central nervous system (CNS ...

Father Trait Anger and Exposure to Infant Cry: Effects on Emotion, Appraisals of Infants, and Cognitive Performance

open access: yesJournal of Personality, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Trait anger can impact emotional states, appraisals of others, and cognition. The study aim was to assess in fathers whether these associations are exacerbated by infant crying. Method Three hundred sixty‐eight fathers were randomly assigned to infant cry, infant babble, or a non‐infant‐related control while completing assessments of

Abnormal Homeostasis in the Redox State and Related Signaling Pathways, in Irritable Bowel Syndrome

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
There is higher oxidative stress and higher expression of transcription factor NF‐κB and the gp91 subunit of NADPH oxidase in IBS, with lower antioxidant regulator Nrf2. There are no differences in the IBS subtypes; however, in IBS‐C, malondialdehyde correlated with IL‐4, and TNF‐α with IL‐10, suggesting an interleukin‐mediated anti low‐grade ...

Distinct correlation network of clinical characteristics in suicide attempters having adolescent major depressive disorder with non-suicidal self-injury

open access: yesTranslational Psychiatry
Suicidal behavior and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) are common in adolescent patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). Thus, delineating the unique characteristics of suicide attempters having adolescent MDD with NSSI is important for suicide ...

Perturbing whole‐brain models of brain hierarchy: An application for depression following pharmacological treatment

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, EarlyView.
We apply whole‐brain models of brain hierarchy based on a thermodynamics of mind framework to investigate state transitions in depression. Dynamic sensitivity analysis explores how psilocybin and escitalopram affect susceptibility and drivability to healthier states.
