Initial response of Orthoptera to beaver (Castor fiber) reintroductions in post-arable enclosures [PDF]
Rewilding aims to restore ‘self-willed’ ecosystems involving the creation of habitat subject to stochastic disturbance, connected by favorable corridors for dispersal of animals including insects.

The neglect of nonnative orthopterans as potential invaders: A call for awareness
The spread of nonnative orthopterans. Abstract Despite the potential ecological and economic impacts of invasive species, there is a dearth of data on the presence, impacts, and management implications of potentially invasive Orthoptera species. This lack of research and inconsistent data, including risk screenings and impact assessments, is especially

We show that citizen science data, obtained through GBIF, are suitable for analyses of spatial distribution of morphological types within species like the slender groundhopper T. subulata. Wing morph (long or short) was determined based on photographs accompanying observations, and wing‐morph patterns were related to large‐ and medium‐scale landscape ...

Biodiversity, the present ecological state of the Aral Sea and its impact on future development
The Aral sea used to be the fourth largest lake in the world. Its catchment area is huge, two main rivers (Amu Darya and Syr Darya) feed the lake. The balance of hydrological regime changed drastically after 1960 due to regulation of both main rivers ...

Comparison of water and terrestrial jumping in natural and robotic insects
Jumping of small creatures demands high power to surpass size‐related speed limits. They employ various mechanisms to amplify power release. Furthermore, semi‐aquatic jumpers use specialized techniques to maximize the momentum transfer from the water.

Urbanization reduces Orthoptera diversity and changes community structure towards mobile species
Orthoptera sampling at 42 dry grassland sites in Berlin revealed negative effects of urbanization on taxonomic and functional diversity. The proportion of sealed soil, the vegetation cover and the plant richness at the sampling sites had an effect on the species composition, but these effects were mostly species specific.
