Cold‐blooded commerce: Characterizing and predicting trade in Australian squamates

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 4, April 2026.
Despite a national ban on native wildlife exports, Australian reptile species continue to appear in international trade. Using boosted regression trees, we found that large body sizes and taxonomic family, rather than color or patterning, best predicted trade presence. We identified 59 species likely to be targeted in the future, providing key insights

Dysfunction of the key ferroptosis-surveilling systems hypersensitizes mice to tubular necrosis during acute kidney injury

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Necroptosis, a form of cell death, occurs in acute renal injury. Here, the authors show that ferroptosis—a form of cell death dependent on iron - also occurs during acute kidney injury, and show that an inhibitor of ferroptosis can improve survival in a ...

Growth of monolayer graphene on 8deg off-axis 4H-SiC (000-1) substrates with application to quantum transport devices

open access: yes, 2010
Using high temperature annealing conditions with a graphite cap covering the C-face of an 8deg off-axis 4H-SiC sample, large and homogeneous single epitaxial graphene layers have been grown.

Sensory Electrical Stimulation Improves Foot Placement during Targeted Stepping Post-Stroke [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Proper foot placement is vital for maintaining balance during walking, requiring the integration of multiple sensory signals with motor commands. Disruption of brain structures post-stroke likely alters the processing of sensory information by motor ...

SARS-CoV-2-mediated dysregulation of metabolism and autophagy uncovers host-targeting antivirals

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Viruses manipulate host cell pathways to support infection. Here the authors show that SARS-CoV-2 infection modulates cellular metabolism and limits autophagy, and identify druggable host pathways for virus inhibition.

Interband cascade lasers with room temperature threshold current densities below 100 A/cm(2) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Interband Cascade Lasers (ICLs) with threshold current densities below 100 A/cm(2) in pulsed operation at room temperature are presented. The laser structure comprises 10 active stages of 41 nm length, each stage containing a W-quantum well active region

SUBSTITUTING FOR THE STATE: The Sovereignty Impacts of Diverse Citizens’ Off‐grid Infrastructure Strategies in South Africa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Volume 50, Issue 2, Page 430-448, March 2026.
Abstract In South Africa, citizens in both low‐ and high‐income areas are increasingly providing their own services to mitigate the unreliability, unaffordability and inaccessibility of state services.
