The Number of Inversions and the Major Index of Permutations are Asymptotically Joint-Independently Normal [PDF]
We use recurrences (alias difference equations) to prove the longstanding conjecture that the two most important permutation statistics, namely the number of inversions and the major index, are asymptotically joint-independently-normal. We even derive more-precise-than needed asymptotic formulas for the (normalized) mixed moments.

Identifying Personality Traits Using Overlap Dynamics in Multiparty Dialogue [PDF]
Research on human spoken language has shown that speech plays an important role in identifying speaker personality traits. In this work, we propose an approach for identifying speaker personality traits using overlap dynamics in multiparty spoken dialogues. We first define a set of novel features representing the overlap dynamics of each speaker.
