Models and Logical Consequence

Journal of Philosophical Logic, 2013
This paper deals with the adequacy of the model-theoretic definition of logical consequence. Logical consequence is commonly described as a necessary relation that can be determined by the form of the sentences involved. In this paper, necessity is assumed to be a metaphysical notion, and formality is viewed as a means to avoid dealing with complex ...

Consequences of deterministic and stochastic modeling of a promoter

The 26th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2005
For an engineered genetic oscillator, deterministic analysis indicates sustained oscillations and stochastic simulations show irregular or absent oscillations. Since the major difference is in the modeling of the promoters, we have performed a detailed analysis of a generic repressible promoter system.

Metabolic consequences of lipodystrophy in mouse models

Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition & Metabolic Care, 2006
Adipose tissue is a key player in metabolic homeostasis through its role as an energy depot and endocrine organ. The characterization of mouse models of lipodystrophy, in which adipose tissue development and function are impaired, has shed new light on the mechanisms by which adipose tissue dysregulation may contribute to conditions such as insulin ...

Virtualization of organizations: consequences for workflow modeling

Proceedings of the 32nd Annual Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences. 1999. HICSS-32. Abstracts and CD-ROM of Full Papers, 2003
We propose to introduce novel constructs for workflow modeling in the context of changing the organization of work when virtualizing organizations. We do not only develop a list of required constructs in a structured way, but also show how existing approaches could be enhanced through modeling different modes of work.

Radiological Consequences Modelling

2012
Abstract Radiological consequences for humans, flora and fauna due to discharges of radionuclides into the environment are key issues in impact assessments prepared for nuclear installations. So far, radioecological studies have mainly focussed on temperate zones.

Population Consequences of a Physiological Model for Individuals

Functional Ecology, 1989
For many applications, it is important to identify the traits of individuals that are essential for the dynamical behaviour of populations. On the basis of computer simulations, which used a realistic model for size-dependent ingestion, reproduction and survival of individuals, we evaluated population consequences in homogeneous simple habitats.
